'Wow. They are stronger than I thought.'
Noir sat in the seating area in a big stadium, watching the students as they took the test to determine their class in one of the academies.
The place where the test was located was not a facility belonging to the academies but the city Lord. In the Majesty City, also known as the Academy City, existed 12 academies that sheltered and nurtured the freshly awakened Resonant.
Noir had come to know that the invitation he received two weeks ago was actually to participate in this test to see whether he was qualified to enter the academy.
Of course, everyone was qualified. But whether they got accepted to the top academy was a different case.
Of the 12 academies that were named after Constellation, Virgo stood as the number 1, whereas Capricorn was the last.
Although the MC (Master of Ceremony) said all of the academies were equal in all aspects, everyone knew the difference in the qualities between each academy.
Obviously, they were aiming for the top academy, Virgo, or at least the second top, Aquarius.
As for Noir, he hadn't decided yet which academy he would attend. Not until he finished observing all the test participants in the Major Stadium, even though he already completed his test with a good score, which allowed him to choose as he saw fit.

A few hours ago...
Noir arrived at the Majesty City Flash section. From there, he rode a transportation capable of boarding up to 500 people, along with the other new students.
As it was a technomagi invention, it could be able to accommodate that many people. Also, its appearance was an ordinary bus on the outside but a large, auditorium-like room on the inside.
The experience Noir had when passing through its door was as if he had crossed a different dimension.
As soon as they arrived at the Major Stadium, the second-year students who took jobs as guides and staff instructed the first-years to gather inside.
"Place your hand on the scanner and move along," said the second-year as Noir stood before the checking gate.
As he put his hand on the scanner, the green particles surrounded him like a moth did to light. When the process was done, Noir saw the second-year student taking notes.
"What are you looking at? Get moving greenhorn!"
Rolling his eyes at the stern senior, Noir entered the Major Stadium and looked for a seat with a good view and angle.
As he sat, Noir wondered what the senior wrote in his notes.
'I hope they didn't discover that I have two Resonances.'
Noir played with his FT Phone, waiting for the event to start. Then, when the stadium was crowded by students, Noir paid attention to the arena stage in the center, where the MC faked a cough through the microphone, demanding attention.
The MC opened the ceremony with a greeting, of course. Then, thanking all the professors and the city Lords who were attending. He began by addressing how the Resonants were the pillars of humanity, raising the motivation of the fresh awakened.
He also mentioned about the sad news that almost a hundred Resonant candidates lost their lives due to the camp's supervisor negligence in the day when Noir and Argent had just been awakened.
It was thanks to Argent's stubbornness that the information about the difficulty of the tower in Haven Liberty suddenly spiked, which was too hard for the candidates who were trying to awaken to pass, was relayed to the League.
Which then, the League's personnel immediately closed the Haven Liberty's test for this year and fired the supervisor who handled it.
In the middle of his speech, he also addressed the recent problem with the rebel known as Indigo Society, momentarily passing the speech to the League's Vice head.
The vice head was a woman with eyes as sly as a fox. She looked gorgeous and young to be the vice-head of the largest organization. It was to the point that Noir thought she got into that position because of her connection with the League's Head.
'Though I shouldn't judge something by its cover, I can't help but think that the first time I read her bio. But after watching a video showcasing her prowess... I can tell that she deserved that position.'
Tapping on the mic, she said something that convinced the Resonant to not pay them attention as the League would be the one handling them.
"As someone who would lead the future, the students should focus on their studies..."
Noir yawned as it finally ended. After half-listening to her speech, he could conclude that she was mostly appealing to the Resonant's situation. Meanwhile, the Indigo Society appealed to the civilians.
'It's a noble against peasant scenario...'
For the Resonant, having the Dimensional Rifts appearing in the world was beneficial for their growth. For them, the fastest way to grow was to accumulate experience by fighting against monsters and consuming their essences.
In the old times, a hundred or more Dimensional Rifts would appear across the world every week, resulting in the higher quality of the Resonants.
These days, however, the Dimensional Rifts didn't appear as frequently as in the old times. The rate of them appeared gradually decreasing day by day. They were getting rarer and rarer, resulting in the lower quality of the Resonants.
Because of that scarcity, the League began regulating the remaining Dimensional Rifts. A new rule was created to prevent the extinction of the rift.
The new rule forbids the Resonant from killing the boss monster, or else the rift would vanish.
That was how important the Dimensional Rifts were in the Resonant's perspective. But in the eyes of civilians? It was all different. For them, the rift was a seed of a problem that needed to be removed from the world.
'However, the Indigo Society is a group filled with the Resonant... unless they choose to have a peaceful life without worrying about death that has become the norm, they wouldn't have done it.'
The Indigo Society had intrigued Noir. He wondered what their actual goal was.
Shaking the thought from his head, Noir focused on the ceremony once again. Without him knowing, the MC suddenly talked about the written test that was about to begin soon.
Noticing everyone else holding their FT Phones, Noir did the same and found out the content of the test.
"Well, without further ado, we shall begin the written test! Everyone, good luck!"
Connecting to the stadium's network, Noir accessed the test and began answering all the questions. Luckily for him, he had the [Memorization]. But passing the test with a perfect score was going to attract unnecessary attention as he didn't want to be put in the spotlight.
So, he did it moderately...
Well...
But...
How did he end up placed first in the end?
'Fvck...'
