She was indeed, being watched.
She could sense it.
A silent presence, yes, but constant, unyielding. Unwavering.
She opened her eyes after only a few moments of feeling that silent staring.
The pretty blue eyes of Snowball met hers.
The kitten crouched down on his haunches, looking at her, unwavering, unblinking, waiting for her to react. He didn't move at all. He simply stared at her.
He was only a few inches away, clearly having clambered over closer from his cat bed at some point after people had fallen asleep.
He'd insinuated himself onto the pillow between herself and Alexander's still sleeping form.
He looked at her so innocently. So curiously.
So expectantly.
And he waited.
Waited...
Until she smiled, reaching up to pet him gently, scratching behind his ears, stroking his back.
