章節 7: Poor Slipper

"If no man ever wants you and the Clovers wish to have a descendant, I can fulfill their wish to give them an heir. I'll do my part of the role of a husband well." Roland laid his conditions out boldly.

"Hah, so you mean you'll give birth to a baby? I don't think you have such functional genitals to do so. It would help if you revisited the Introduction to Anatomy class. Also, I don't need a useless husband who can't even drink coffee without spitting it from adding too much salt." Ivy retorted, shooting him a critical gaze that sent shivers down his spine. Though he was fully clothed, he felt goosebumps all over his body.

"You should know better than to joke like this. If I am unhappy, I can take this offer away, and you can see if you can find a better offer. I am sure no man would want a wife who looks like you do." He declared, looking away from her.

Their verbal exchange intensified—their words laced with animosity and contempt.

Ivy retorted sharply. "Well, I'm not sure if your offer is better, but your action reeks worse than your words. Did you not brush your teeth? Your breath stinks worse than a skunk spray. For someone who dared to speak ill of our clan, you sure dare to stand there acting superior and offer such a crap marriage deal."

"You- Don't overestimate the Clover clan's power. Just watch. The Clovers will crumble very soon with useless trash like you who doesn't even know how to dress properly for a five-star hotel restaurant date." Roland's retort took on a tone of petulance and crudeness.

"Oh, offended now, are we? At least I am unlike someone who chickens out during a dinner date after being questioned and ruining an expensive suit and a pair of limited-edition shoes. By the way, these boots cost more than your grandstanding about the business profits you earned." Ivy retaliated, purposely pricking him where it hurts.

"Hah, well, looking at your face made me full already. Thank god I won't have to meet your sister or mother. With looks like that, I'm sure ten buckets wouldn't be enough for me to vomit in. I'd be clogging toilets with my vomit. If not for your family's power, did you think anyone would marry a monster and give birth to an org like yourself?"

In a moment of fury, all Roland thought of in his head was to win this argument. He didn't notice his fists being tightly clenched. His heart pounded against his chest as anger churned in his bones.

"Oh, then you must have been breaking many mirrors or not have access to one. The person who is worrying about their status is you. After all, I'm not the one thirsty after fame and power." Ivy found some amusement in the argument, seemingly enjoying the chance to confront him with straightforward facts.

"Hah, no worries. I'm sure an apple doesn't fall far from a tree. To give birth to a daughter like you, your dad must be a gigolo, at best. If not, he must have been blind or blinded himself to marry your mother. Or maybe both your parents are like hippos. Look at your wide hips and old-fashion clothing style. No wonder the Clovers never liked appearing in public events. Why would they if the whole family are wider than hippos?"

Frustrated by Ivy's composed response to his remarks, Roland changed tactics and insulted her family instead. "Oh! And your sister, too. Your family is looking all over the place for a husband for you. No wonder they are in a hurry. With your looks, they should've started when you were five years old! Your mother must be so sad to see your face every day."

With a sinister grin on her face, Ivy let out a chilling laugh that sent shivers down his spine. "You know, it's funny that you even mentioned this. You've just reminded me of something. Not only is your name alike, but you look exactly like him, too. I wasn't planning to, but you made me realize I've been way too nice to you. So, I'll have you meet him." She tapped her screen and looked at the time, awaiting the surprise she prepared for him.

To contain his anger, he turned around to face away from her. "From your reaction, it seems like I am pretty accurate. Also, the head of the Clovers clan isn't that big of a shot. Who knows? His enemies can easily shoot him down. He is nothing but a weakling who can't grow a single muscle. And as his niece, you're nothing but a huge burden to the family. All you have is the title." He clicked his tongue as he finished his words.

"Wow, you're such a prick! I was going to hold back, but I guess there's no need for that now!" Ivy took off one of her slippers and flung it in his direction.

PLACK

The slipper slapped the back of his head, sending his head forward from the impact. He held his head where it stung from pain. Ivy stood firmly on one foot, perfectly balanced, with her arms crossed on her chest.

"Hah, I guess you won't need this anymore," The more he rubbed his head, the more sore it felt. He stared at the pig bunny on her slipper and found it very agitating to look at. The face on the slipper was obviously mocking him. No matter which angle he looked at it, it was irritating him.

He opened the window to his suite and waved the slipper around.

"Don't you dare!" Ivy realized what he wanted to do and tried to warn him. However, her warning came too late.

"I just did. And that is where it should be," he clapped his hands, like dusting chalkboard erasers.

Simultaneously, at the hotel entrance, Chloe grabbed Lucas's hand, urging him to quicken his pace. When she exited the hotel a few minutes ago to look for Lucas, she was distracted by a group of clowns entering, causing her to lose track of time. Now, she was compensating for that lost time by pulling Lucas along hurriedly.

"Wait, hold on! How do you know if they are already at his hotel room? You should check before going up. What if they're not in that room? That'll cause more delay," Lucas halted Chloe before they entered the hotel. His gaze lingered on the delectable bite of hamburger in his other hand, making his mouth water.

"You're right. Let me check-" Chloe raised a pair of binoculars she took from Lucas's vehicle earlier to her eyes, but before she could see anything, she felt herself floating in the air. To be exact, she was lifted off the ground. Her body swung around a hundred and eighty degrees from her original position.

"Watch out!" Lucas swiftly wrapped his arm around her waist, rescuing her from the unknown object that flew down from above.
