Amon couldn't help but feel a surge of curiosity as he gazed into the young girl's eyes. "Do you know anything about Dracula?" he inquired, his voice laden with anticipation.
The girl hesitated for a moment, her eyes reflecting a mixture of reverence and fear. "Dracula," she began, "is our savior. He's the one who saved us and gave us a new land to live in." Her voice quivered as she spoke of this enigmatic figure.
Amon's confusion grew, but he decided not to press further, realizing that the girl's frail appearance concealed a much more profound story.
As he observed her closely, Amon, along with Skolo and Star, couldn't help but notice the array of scars that marred the girl's arms. Her short brown hair framed her delicate face, but her raggedy clothes and pallid complexion painted a portrait of hardship.
Skolo, ever inquisitive, couldn't hold back. "Where did you get all those scars?" he asked, his hollow sockets focusing intently on the girl.
The girl, though still nervous, seemed to find comfort in Amon's presence. She explained that when she arrived on Earth, she was utterly clueless about her surroundings. She recounted how she had crossed paths with a group of otherworlders who mentioned a person claiming dominion over the palace of London—an otherworlder named Valen.
Valen, she said, was a former member of Dracula's army who had now begun acting like a king, since Dracula didn't care about London. He and his allies coerced them into risking their lives by fighting monsters to earn points. For many weak otherworlders, like herself, there was no choice but to comply, as Valen provided shelter. A terrifying ultimatum loomed: fail to pay Valen ten points a week, and they would be cast out of the sanctuary.
Amon couldn't contain his outrage and knelt down, gently patting the girl's head. His anger was palpable, and even the usually composed Skolo and the snarky Star were visibly disgusted by Valen's cruelty.
Promising to save her from this dire predicament, Amon looked into the girl's eyes with unwavering determination. However, the girl, though genuinely grateful for his kindness, forced a fragile smile. She insisted, "I'm fine, really. You don't need to trouble yourselves."
The trio of companions understood that her attempt at bravery concealed a plea for help, an unspoken plea to keep Amon from getting into trouble on her account.
As the girl turned to walk away, Amon swiftly moved in front of her. With sincerity in his voice, he told her, "You don't need to worry. I'm stronger than you might think. You can confide in me and ask for help."
Overwhelmed by her own fears and the empathy displayed before her, the girl finally broke down. Tears streamed down her face as she cried out, "Please save me!" Her voice resonated with pain and desperation, filling the air with a heart-wrenching plea.
Amon, Skolo, and Star huddled around her, offering solace and support. Amon knelt and embraced the girl, attempting to comfort her in the face of the harsh reality she had endured.
Skolo's characteristic smile broke through the somber atmosphere, while Star, his anger fueled by the girl's heartbreaking story, declared fiercely, "I'll make sure to deal with this Valen and put fear into his heart."
The girl's tears began to subside as she laughed weakly, the first rays of hope emerging in her eyes. Skolo kneeled beside her and asked gently, "What's your name, child?"
With trembling nerves, the girl responded, "Anna." Her voice was a fragile whisper, but it held the promise of a new beginning.
