The weather was gloomy, the sky filled with thick, low, grey-yellow clouds, and the cold wind howled, feeling like needles stinging any exposed skin.
"A blizzard is coming, damn this weather." A soldier, wrapped tightly against the cold, stood on the fortress wall, looked up at the sky and muttered under his breath. Even though he had grown up in this world filled with ice and snow, he would never like this kind of weather.
"Stretch yourselves, check your weapons, and as soon as the snow starts to fall, keep your eyes wide open and watch carefully. No monster is allowed to cross our Long Winter Fortress."
Several heavily-armored officers patrolled the wide fortress walls, which were broad enough to accommodate sixteen horse-drawn carriages driving side by side. They shouted loudly, and if they saw any soldier trying to skive under the crevices in the walls, they scolded them.
