章節 7: Secrets Unocvered
I became a little nauseous seeing all of the dead bodies laying on the ground.
It appeared the CDC was overrun as well seeing as no one was here.
It wasn't the dead bodies that bothered me, it was the fact that even the CDC couldn't survive this apocalypse.
In his last life when war after war devastated the earth and even through the nuclear winters the CDC had always stood.
Biological warfare ravaged the earth and if the CDC wasn't there no one would have been alive.
So seeing that the CDC was gone made me realize this disease was a lot more dangerous than he thought.
It couldn't be as simple as getting bit or scratched. There's no way that many people got bit in the beginning for the world to fall that quickly.
He didn't know the answers yet but he was getting close.
"Let's go." He and Amy got out of the jeep and made their way toward the CDC building with the others.
The others were coughing and finding it hard to breathe because of the smell of dead bodies but he was used to it.
"Keep moving." Rick said
It was already night time and if the CDC didn't work out we would be stranded out in the dark in the middle of bum fuck no where.
Making it to the metal shutters me and Rick tried to open them but they were locked down.
The others started to freak out and eventually a few walkers started heading out.
Shoo!
Daryl took them down but the others were panicking.
"Rick, what's your call?" I asked Rick who was staring at the camera.
"I know you're in there. I know you can hear me." Rick banged on the shutters.
"Rick, nobody's there!" Lori screamed while trying to drag him away.
"Please, we're desperate. Please help us. We have women, children, no food, hardly any gas left" Rick begged
"Rick. There's no one there." Lori said while holding him.
"We gotta go!" Glenn screamed
"Keep your eyes open. If you don't let us in, you're killing us!" Rick banged on the shutter.
Even I was beginning to grow weary. The walkers were starting to close in around us and it was getting hard to see.
"Please help us. You're killing us! You're killing us! You're killing us!" Rick screamed
We all waited a second but the doors didn't budge and just as we all started to run we heard the doors opening behind us.
"Go go go!"
We all started to run inside with our bags and gear before the man inside told us his name.
Dr. Edwin Jenner
I didn't fully trust him but I was relieved to have some food and shelter for the night.
"Come on let the little man have some." Daryl says with a grin
"Fine." Lori finally caves and they hand Carl a small sip of champagne.
Carl who's happy takes a sip and his face instantly scrunches up.
"Ewww!"
"Hahaha!" We all laugh.
Daryl also spotted Glenn looking like he wanted some and started teasing him making us all chuckle.
Finally me and Rick calmed down from the happiness of being safe and fed and realized we had left Jenner out so Rick made a big speech about thanking him before we all started drinking and laughing again.
"None for your princess, you won't be able to walk tomorrow morning." I snickered as I snatched the bottle out of Amy's hands.
"Shane!" Amy then quickly grabbed the piece of steak off my plate and ate it.
"Hey!"
"Hahaha!" Everyone laughed at our antics.
Finally after we were done eating we all went to our rooms and apparently the building still had hot water causing all of us to start smiling.
Even I was as happy as a pig in mud. I hadn't had a hot shower in years.
I took a long ass shower and savored the feeling hoping I wouldn't forget it again.
"Truly a blessing." I smiled
Getting dressed in my usual jeans and t shirt I decided to explore a little bit and found the game room with Carol and Lori and the two kids sitting around and hanging out.
"Shower was nice huh Shane?" Lori smiled.
She was wearing white pajamas, you wouldn't see someone wearing them unless we felt safe.
"Hell yeah it was." I sat down on the couch and watched Carl and Sophia play checkers and argue.
Finally Carol took the kids to bed and Lori was reading a book when Amy and Andrea came in.
Amy was looking cute with a pink pajama outfit causing me to laugh out loud.
Amy blushed before sitting next to me.
"Shut it."
"How was your shower?" I asked with a smile
"Amazing! It feels good to not be dirty and you finally don't smell." Amy joked
"Chh!" I rolled my eyes
"How are you holding up Andrea?" I asked Andrea who was looking for a book to read.
"I'm good, and thanks for keeping Amy safe." Andrea said with a serious face.
"Of course. It's my pleasure." I smiled
Finally we all grew tired and went off to bed before we woke up in the morning and got something to eat before Dr Jenner finally gave us some answers on the disease.
"So Dr, that's neat and all but it doesn't really make sense." I said out Loud causing everyone to look at me.
"What doesn't?" Dr Jenner looked at me confused.
"How could entire cities fall within a day if first a walker had to actually bite or scratch someone?" I ask confused.
"How come when they bombed entire cities of infected that somehow the city was still full of infected."
My words caused everyone to have a confused look and they all looked at Dr Jenner with curious looks.
Dr.Jenner who was put on the spot frowned before opening his mouth.
"You might not like what you hear." He said
"Maybe not. But we still need to know." Rick said.
"The truth is. We're all infected."
"What!" A few screamed out and others started getting pale.
