Ellen laughed softly and took out a candy for Irvin Jones.

It was one she usually ate, but it was fine for a child to have one too; it was just perfect as he wouldn't fuss for food at night now.

Irvin Jones grinned foolishly, and Ellen patted his cheek.

Ruffy Smith noticed that Ellen seemed to really like children, and his eyes deepened.

They didn't rush outside but instead sat in Aunt Walker's courtyard. The courtyard was now clean and tidy, and not far away, one could see the village chief's office. Aunt Walker had gone to inquire about something for them.

The noise was because everyone in the village had come out to talk. Now that they saw Ellen had arrived, it didn't feel right to continue.

The focus of their discussion had now shifted to her.

"Hey, that young man with her, you can't deny he's really good-looking. Is he Ellen's boyfriend?"
