"I see, It must be a very important letter then. Don't worry Lord Hokage, I would protect this letter with my life." Itachi said with a stern and determined expression.
Hiruzen and Shikaku had weird expressions on their faces.
"I don't think that the mission would be so difficult that you would have to put your life on the line." Hiruzen said to Itachi.
"Since when does shinobi deliver love letters in a C-rank mission?" Ken asked
"Usually even if letters that are not related to the village and are delivered outside the village, It is considered a D-rank mission. But the person who has given us this mission is Lady Himi who is a noble of the Land of Fire. She is also the newly appointed minister for the medical department of the Land of Fire."
"Besides the reason that she is an important figure in the Land of Fire, she is also paying a lot of money for this mission which is almost equal to the money for a B-rank mission. That's why the mission is C ranked." Hiruzen explained the reason for the mission being of a higher grade.
As soon as Ken heard 'a lot of money', his eyes started shining. He did not even question changing the mission which was a relief to Hiruzen.
"You have to go to the town of Kinki where the guy named Shibo lives. The letter is to be given to Shibo. You have to ask him to read it right on the spot. Ladi Mimi has asked him to marry him in the letter and if he wishes to marry her, he should come to the Leaf village with you guys otherwise she would think that he does not love him." Hiruzen explained the mission to them as he also handed them a photo of the Shobo guy to help them recognize and find him.
"So in short we have to take this letter to this Shobo guy. Make him read it and if he accepts the marriage proposal, we would have to bring him back to the village. Correct?" Ken confirmed with Hiruzen who nodded.
"Now it's time for you young ones to begin your journey as proud shinobis of the Leaf. May your will of fire keep burning bright!" Hiruzen said as he watched the three genins along with Shikuro leave.
"Be safe, little one." Hiruzen muttered.
Team Shikuro was already geared up for the mission as they knew that they would be leaving the village for the mission today.
"You all have your supplies and weapons packed and checked?"Shikuro asked as everyone nodded.
"Good. Let's leave right away." Shikuro said as all three of them followed behind Shikuro.
Running behind Shikuro, Ken realized something that he had forgotten in all the training with ninjutsu, kenjutsu and taijutsu.
He had forgotten to learn the body flicker jutsu. The body flicker jutsu would help him catch up with running enemies or escape quickly if he was ever in danger.
It can also help him in Taijutsu or dodge long-range ninjutsu attacks.
He looked at Itachi who had already learned the body flicker jutsu thanks to Shisui.
'I will have to ask him to teach me once the mission is over.' Ken thought
The town that they were going to travel would take them 15 hours to reach if they ran constantly. If they take breaks, it would take them at least 20 hours to reach the town.
The Land of Fire was a pretty big country. So it did take a lot of time to get from one place to another.
They continued to travel and reached their destination after a full day. They had taken a lot of breaks in between as the genins exhausted their stamina quickly due to running so much. It was a good endurance training for them. They did not encounter anything dangerous in their journey.
As soon as they reached the town of Kinki. They were stopped by the town guards.
"Halt! Please confirm your identity as Leaf Shinobis." The guard politely asked them.
Each town and city had at least two sensor shinobi which would constantly scan outside the town or city to see, then they would report to guards if they sensed a shinobi getting near to the village.
The guards would then check the identity of the shinobi and their purpose for coming here. Leaf ninja were welcomed in the village after they prove their identity as a leaf shinobi.
Shinobi from other countries were only allowed if they had been hired by a person belonging to the land of fire or were under a mission issued by another village to protect someone while traveling. For example- a merchant group of Kumo traveling in the land of fire with Kumo shinobi acting as their bodyguards are allowed entry into the land of fire towns.
But the merchant group has to inform the towns that they are going to visit about it beforehand.
Shikuro completed the formalities. They asked the local people about the guy.
After some time, they found the address of the guy, he worked as one of the town doctors. He was surprisingly a genin medical nin.
'Let me guess, this guy must have healed that Lady and she fell in love with him. Talk about cliché. But it still worked. Should I learn medical ninjutsu?' Ken thought
They reached the clinic of the guy.
"Yes, How can I help you?" Shibo asked. He was a man in his early 20s, a perfect age to get married in the world of Naruto.
"As you can see from our headbands, we are leaf shinobi and we are here on a mission on behalf of Lady Himi. She has sent this letter for you. Please read it and give us your reply." Itachi said as he took out the letter that he was 'protecting with his life.'
'Lady Himi? So she does remember me. I thought she forgot about me after all i am just a countryside genin.' Shibo thought happy that the girl he saved still remembered him.
