章節 28: Rita save the day

The battlefield was a mess, but Luo Mo couldn't look away. He watched as Papa Titan, a giant Mecha, held Wendy captive.

Wendy, with her bright green hair, looked so small against the Titan's massive arm. Every time they bumped together, Luo Mo felt a pang of worry.

While Luo Mo watched helplessly, Theresa decided to act.

Clutching a cross, she bravely ran toward the giant, her loyal followers right behind her. Rita, her usual bright smile a little strained, quickly took down the Titan with her scythe.

Theresa reached out her hand to Rita, but things got a bit awkward. Rita handed over Wendy, who looked surprisingly alright, maybe because of the Herrscher Core inside her. Luo Mo had been expecting much worse.

Just then, a voice cut through the chaos. "Theresa! What do you think you're doing to our Branch?" It was the branch minister, finally catching up to the group and clearly not happy.

Luo Mo stepped forward, a hint of sarcasm in his voice. "Your branch people?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

Meanwhile, Theresa was focused entirely on Wendy, checking her over for injuries. Wendy was her star student, and it hurt Theresa to see her suffering because of something the Oceania branch had done.

"Take a closer look," Luo Mo went on. "This is Rita, an S-rank Valkyrie from Schicksal HQ. Your branch minister is suspected of doing unauthorized research on Herrschers, those beings connected to the Honkai. Are all of you involved in this research, too?"

The branch minister's face flushed, a mix of anger and embarrassment. Her team looked down at their feet, ashamed.

None of them wanted to be associated with this mess.

Quickly, the minister made up her mind. "That research was done in secret, right here in this lab. I didn't know anything about it," she declared.

Her words hung in the air, leaving everyone to consider what this meant.

Theresa's voice boomed across the battlefield, filled with the anger of a mother bear protecting her cub. "Selina!" she shouted, clutching her cross tightly.

Her eyes burned with a fire that could rival any battle as she faced the branch minister.

"Are you really going to stand there and pretend you had nothing to do with this?" Theresa demanded, her voice echoing across the battlefield.

Selina stayed silent, which only made Theresa angrier.

"You were an A-rank Valkyrie once, too!" Theresa continued, her voice full of both fury and disappointment. "You fought the Honkai to protect humanity. How can you even think about turning against your fellow Valkyries like this?"

Before Selina could answer, an older woman walked up to them. Her hair was white, and she leaned on a cane for support. But despite her age, she moved with a certain strength.

"That's enough," she commanded, her voice putting an end to the argument.

"Theresa, take Wendy and go back to St. Freya's Academy," she instructed. "This matter is settled."

Theresa, still fuming, lifted her cross higher, ready to fight. The older woman just raised an eyebrow. "Are you really going to attack an old lady?" she asked, her tone challenging Theresa to make a move.

But this was no ordinary grandma. She had been a powerful A-rank Valkyrie herself, fighting the Honkai on the front lines. She had lost both her arms in a terrible accident and now had prosthetics made by Schicksal.

She even wore a special medal, a rare honor given only to a few people in all of Schicksal.

When she couldn't fight anymore, she resigned and joined the Oceania branch. Everyone there respected her, almost as much as they respected the branch minister herself.

"Theresa, you need to calm down," Himeko said, trying to keep her own anger in check. It was a tense situation, and calming Theresa down was the smartest thing to do.

Fighting back wasn't an option, not right there in front of everyone.

Rita stood quietly to the side, her usual smile gone.

She watched everything closely, silently thinking about everything she had seen and heard.

"How dare they treat Lady Theresa like this," Rita whispered to herself, anger flashing in her eyes. "The only person allowed to pick on Theresa is Myself!"

The group left the Oceania branch quietly, their hearts heavy with worry and disappointment. They headed to their battleship, Hyperion, which was waiting to take them home.

"Let Kiana and the others know that Wendy is safe and tell them to meet us back at the ship as soon as possible," Luo Mo told Himeko.

Onboard Hyperion, Theresa gently held Wendy, checking her over with the medical equipment they had available.

Rita helped quietly, her usual cheerful demeanor replaced with a serious focus.

Kiana nodded at Luo Mo's instructions and headed to the control room, ready to set their course for home.

As they prepared to leave, the tension from their confrontation at the branch still lingered in the air. But despite the silence and the seriousness of the situation, there was also a feeling of relief.

Wendy was safe, and they were finally going home.

....

After Theresa and the others left, the Oceania branch minister turned to the older woman, her face full of worry. "We're just going to let them go?" she asked, her voice little more than a whisper.

The elderly woman scoffed in response. "They arrived here full of arrogance, and now they leave with their tails between their legs," she retorted.

"But we lost that valuable gem we were using for the experiment," the minister argued, "and some of our people, too."

The older woman waved her hand dismissively. "We already learned everything we could from that gem. It's not as important as everyone thinks. And besides," she added, "a secret that other people know is no secret at all."

"That's one of the only remaining S-ranked female Valkyries of Schicksal!" the branch minister exclaimed.

Just then, a striking figure walked into the room, interrupting their conversation. It was a woman with long, flowing blonde hair and an air of authority.

She wore a white shawl over her shoulders, but it did little to hide the fact that she was a powerful presence.

The older woman just grunted at the newcomer, clearly not wanting to talk about the situation in front of her. "Our alliance is over," she stated flatly. "Anti-Entropy is no longer your ally, and we will not betray Schicksal!"

The newcomer's face softened for a moment, a hint of sadness crossing her features. She held a glass jar carefully in her hand, her eyes fixed on what was inside.

The jar contained a dark green liquid swirling around a beautiful gemstone that seemed to glow with an otherworldly light.

"That's unfortunate," she murmured, more to herself than anyone else.

"Well, then," she continued, her voice echoing in the silent room, "I guess I'll have to study this Serenity Gem on my own."

The older woman and the branch minister gasped. The legendary Serenity Gem – said to hold the power of life itself – was in this woman's hands? This was far bigger than anything they had been researching.

"Wait, Cocolia, we can still work something out!" the older woman insisted, her voice trembling slightly. She coughed to hide her surprise, her hand tightening around her cane.

"We've spent years studying the Herrschers," she continued, desperate to salvage the situation. "We can help you understand their power. When the time comes, all we need..."

Cocolia just smiled, neither agreeing nor disagreeing with the offer. She didn't say a word, and the silence filled the room as the others waited anxiously for her to make up her mind.

....

"Rita, Rita! Can you come here for a second?" Luo Mo whispered, careful not to disturb Theresa, who was still focused on checking Wendy over.

"What is it, Lord Luo Mo?" Rita asked, her usual cheerfulness gone.

"Why are you calling me 'Lord'...? Never mind, it doesn't matter. I have a question. Weren't there four of them going to rescue Wendy? How come you're the one who ended up saving her?"

"There was a slight miscalculation on Miss Bronya's part," Rita explained. "They went to the wrong place and walked right into a trap. Aren't you worried about them, Lord Luo Mo? Or do you think they'll be able to handle it?"

"Why didn't you tell them they were going to the wrong place, Rita?" Luo Mo insisted.

"Until we know for sure, there's no way to be absolutely certain about anything," Rita answered, her words vague.

Luo Mo thought for a moment. "I See... Well, I trust Fu Hua," he finally said.

"Hehe, well, in that case, maybe I should remind you that Master Fu Hua doesn't have much power left. If she pushes herself too hard this time, it will be even harder for her to keep you safe in the future," Rita cautioned.

"I'll come up with a plan," Luo Mo assured her.

Seeing the serious look on Rita's face – unusual for her – Luo Mo decided it would be best not to do anything reckless for the moment.

He listened carefully as Rita told him what had happened at the Oceania branch, forcing himself to accept the situation, even though it seemed a little far-fetched.

Then again, Bronya getting captured and Rita coming to the rescue wasn't exactly out of character for either of them.

You know, Kallen's world is worse than Otto's.

Almost all Schicksal branches want to go out and be independent because they have their own interests.

The technology is 10 times worse even with more research funds, and funfact: the production funds for otto's "kallen fanstasy" game can be used to produce better kallen world battlesuits hohoho
