Brax’s gaze catches Parker’s, and she feels his desire curl in her belly. She also feels a deep, abiding, warm feeling flow between their hands.

“Surprise?” Parker has wanted to show Brax but has been waiting for the right moment, and this is it. She wants her and Brax to meld at all levels and for the warrior mark to not be the main deciding factor for her and Brax.

And because she is feeling bitchy, because of the concubine comment, as if she would share her mate, Parker catches the Empress’ eye. She places her hand on Brax’s cheek and mouths, ‘mine,’ making sure every holoscreen transmits her claim.

She wants to flip the Empress off and shoot her between the eyes with her sniper rifle but figures that would not be a good political tactic to take, so she settles for staking her claim by lowering her mouth to Brax’s and kissing him on the platform for the whole galaxy to see.
