CHAPTER THIRTY NINE
Karen walked into the party to reassure Ralph that she is alright, so she could go back to check what that girl wanted with Kate when she heard a voice. She knew that voice like she knew herself as this voice was responsible for her traumas, fears and most of the fears she has in life.
The voice was coming from…from Ralph's front. The person was holding that navy blue mask that had auctioned the highest, Ralph's huge body was almost obstructing the person entirely but as she came closer, she saw the person's side view.amd she could automatically tell who it was. Luke nother freaking Zeref!
'What was he doing here?' thought Karen as she hid behind a pillar. People had revealed their masks after the auctioning and we're moving about without disguise, if that was not the case, she might not have been able to discover him.
Luke could perceive the mutt he had been looking for months around but he couldn't find her anywhere.
'There is no freaking way she would be in such a place..' thought Luke as he stared around and then his eyes came in contact with a body that had made a diversion behind a pillar. He was speaking with his Supreme Alpha and saw this as an opportunity to win favour in the sight of the man who was intimidating.
He could still perceive her scent, he knew that scent…well because he is obsessed with the wearer of the scent.
He quickly excused himself for a second as he whispered to his Beta who is super obsessed with the Supreme Alpha.
"Keep him busy! I need to check on something" he said and was grateful that the Alpha was speaking to his Beta - the Supreme Beta or there was a ninety percent chance he could have heard his whisper.
Following the scent, he checked behind the pillar the body had made the diversion but there was nobody there. He could still perceive the scent around the sea of bodies. He noticed the head of a black masked person clad in a black dress bent and walking straight ahead - that was definitely suspicious. Because of the movement of the persons around him, evading waiters and waitresses, the person he was trailing entered into a car. The car she entered, there were only three persons in the world that owned that monster of a car and two of the persons that owned the car were at the party.
'That is definitely not her. She won't be able to meet such people, ' said Luke before turning back to the party.
Karen looked at Luke through the tinted glasses of the car and she was certain that this was the only way for her to escape him when she discovered that he was trailing her.
She was breathing hard and heavy as she entered the car. Alejandro was about to come out to open the door of the car for her but she had taken brisk steps and had entered the car.
"Are you alright Luna?" asked Alejandro as he noticed her laboured breathing and her pale face.
"I would be. I do not want to disturb Ralph as I am aware a lot of people would love to speak with him. So, please, just take me to the Pack and do not tell Ralph about this till you come back. Please do this for me if you really see me as your Luna. I have already sent him a text and I am not sure he would be able to read it now!"
"Alright Luna" said Alejandro as he looked at her through the mirror in the car. He saw how she looked and he got to action and took her to the pack. As he took her home, he drove back to the party.
As Karen entered the mansion, she tried to calm herself. The time for her to leave is now… There was no better time to leave than now but why was she feeling sad. This was her plan from the very beginning…wasn't it..
Nanny Freya was in the living room with little Eva on her lap. As Karen entered, she went over to them and Nanny Freya was surprised she was alone.
"Where is the Alpha?"
"I was not feeling so well and I had to tell Alejandro to drive me home"
Placing little Eva on the couch, Nanny Freya stood up to assess the soon to be Luna. As she touched Karen's forehead for a burning temperature, Karen suddenly hugged her.
"What's wrong child?"
"Nothing Nan! I'm just thinking of how well you have treated me since I came here" said Karen.
"Oh child! Why wouldn't I? You are a sweet girl and my Luna, it is an honour doing all I do. Are you…are you crying?" asked Nanny Freya as she broke from the hug to look at Karen.
"Stop getting all emotional like a pregnant woman, child" said Nanny Freya as she patted Karen's back.
'If only Nanny Freya knew that she and Ralph had not done anything like that and she was…she was leaving him!' she thought and more tears came out of her eyes.
"I'll just go to my room and sleep over these emotions Nan. Send my love to little Eva and thank you for taking care of me Nan!"
"Enough with the thanks, lady. Go get some sleep. Is there anything you did for me to get you?" asked Nanny Freya.
"No! Nothing!" said Karen and she began to climb upstairs to her room. As she reached her room, she closed the door and slid down against it in tears. She could not fully commit to her dad's death or Ralph but now she must make a choice… Luke Zeref could see her here anytime and that could be the end of her!
She knew it was a matter of time before Ralph would be back to the mansion and she desired to spend one last night with him despite all. She pulled off her dinner gown before going to walk in the closet. She grabbed a small backpack and threw in some clothes and necessities. She wanted to pull off the necklace that Ralph had gifted her but she decided against it - it would be used to think of him…Always!
She threw the back pack through the window so that no one would be suspicious of her when she went down.
"Where are you going to Luna?" asked Nanny Freya as she saw Karen dressed in a hoodie and a pair of trousers.
"I…I just want to take a needed walk to the lake to clear my head. Please can you tell Ralph when he comes that I am at the lake?"
"Alright but please take a guard. The woods is a scary place to be at night!"
"I'll keep that in mind" said Karen with a painful smile as she took one final look at Nanny Freya before stepping out.
She picked her bag from the back and began her walk to the lake. She wasn't scared of the noises the nocturnal insects and animals made - she was more scared for her heart because she knew that without doubt, she was in love with Ralph Hernandez.
'If this is going to be the last time, then I am going all the way!' said Karen to herself as she drew closer to the beautiful lake.
