Chapter 55
Selena’s POV
By the time the party was over and all the guests had left, it was already late at night. In order to make a perfect end to today's banquet, we quarreled a few words and went back to the hall immediately. Charles and I didn't get along, but we had to smile and play our roles in front of everyone else.
After seeing off the last guest, I put away my social smile, breathed a sigh of relief, and headed back to our room first. I took some ice cubes from the fridge, put them in a glass and put it on my lip, which had just been bitten by Charles and was now slightly swollen and sore.
After a while, I took out Charles's whisky from the cabinet and poured myself a glass. As the strong alcohol flowed through my body, my nerves relaxed, and I felt like an aging antique clock that was slowly shutting down.
Soon, Charles was back.
Hearing the sound of the door, I resisted the desire to turn around, still standing at the window to drink my wine.
