"I heard you were sick."

Before I could get to the door, Vanessa opened it aggressively and burst in.

I tried to prop myself up from the sofa. "No, just a little uncomfortable..."

"Oh?" She looked at me contemptuously up and down, and then our eyes met in the air. "You haven't been healthy since you came to our house. Are you pretending to be sick?"

I moved my lips. "I'm not..." I couldn't say anything more. I can't say to Vanessa, "I just took the morning-after pill." She wants me to have a baby so badly, she'll kill me the second she hears me.
