章節 85: Chapter 85

The scorching light illuminated the sea of sand, the extremely high temperature seemed to be distorting the surrounding air. Lin believed that there shouldn't be any living creatures in this environment, but the giant worms didn't stop for even a moment.

Lin's Flyer followed them for a long distance. From this position, the forest of sharp pillars was no longer visible. No matter north, south, east, or west, there was only an endless desert. There were almost no water droplets in the air, and there was nothing on the ground except for the occasional oddly shaped rock.

The worms didn't secrete a large amount of dissolving fluid to try and digest the Leviathan in their bodies. Lin believed that they were trying to preserve the water in their bodies for a long journey.

The temperature of the sand was extremely high. Lin had tried letting the Flyer touch the sand before, but the temperature was enough to instantly kill the cells in their bodies. She could even feel the heatwave more than 10 meters above the ground.

But the three worms kept moving forward. They used their heads to cut through the sand like a big fish sticking its head out of the water. Lin didn't know why they were sticking their heads out of the sand, but she guessed that it would be cooler for them to hide in the sand.

Where were they going? The center of the desert? And they seemed to be very familiar with the route. This was the first time Lin had traveled so deep into land.

The Leviathan in the worms' bodies didn't feel the heat at all. They probably had some kind of special heat-resistant ability.

While the worms were able to resist the heat, Lin's Flyers were having a hard time resisting it. Lin had to quickly repair and alter the cells in their bodies. Fortunately, the air was relatively cool, so Lin had enough time to evolve a heat-resistant ability before they died from the heat.

But this was only temporary. After all, the nutrients in the Flyer's bodies were running low. Constant repair and evolution would consume a lot of nutrients, and if they couldn't find a cooler place soon …

The intense heatwave caused Lin's mind to feel a little dizzy. Some of the Flyers had already begun to fall from the heat. Lin immediately ordered the surrounding Flyers to surround them and break them down. Nutrients couldn't be wasted.

Fortunately, most of the Flyers were fine. Although Lin's cells were exactly the same, there were always some differences between them. Some were stronger than the others, and Lin didn't know what was going on.

The current heatwave came entirely from the [Light of Day]. Perhaps it would be better to wait until nighttime.

Lin began to notice that the speed of the three worms had slowed down. Were they also affected by the heat wave?

After following them for a while, Lin found that the speed of the worms had indeed slowed down a lot. Finally, they stopped, retracted into the sand, and became completely motionless.

What was he doing? Was he resting?

While Lin was wondering, a dark figure suddenly entered her vision.

The eyes of the flyers were modeled after those of dragonflies, so their field of vision was quite wide. They saw a huge flying creature approaching them.

Giant Vein Dragonfly?

A huge dragonfly rushed towards them. It was about a hundred meters away from the Flyers at first, but in an instant, it rushed to the side of the Flyers, grabbed one of them, and flew away at an extremely fast speed.

Lin felt as if the Flyer was being bitten by countless sharp blades, and it was quickly torn apart.

The dragonfly wasn't satisfied after eating a Flyer and rushed over again. Seeing this, Lin immediately ordered the Flyers to scatter. The dragonfly successfully caught another Flyer and quickly ate it.

However, even after eating the Flyer, the dragonfly was still not satisfied and wanted to catch more Flyers.

But now, it realized that the Flyers around it were all gone.

The scattered Flyers now stopped on the sand. They also had the ability to change color. As long as they disguised themselves to be the same color as the desert, the dragonfly would not be able to detect them.

But there was a problem. The surface of the desert was too hot, and Lin's Flyers couldn't stay on it for too long. After standing on the sand for a while, Lin felt some of the cells in her legs begin to die.

The dragonfly kept swaying in the air. How troublesome … If this continues, I won't be able to hold on. I might as well let it eat some of them.

Suddenly, the dragonfly seemed to have sensed something and flew away.

Lin immediately ordered the Flyers to leave the sand to avoid the danger of being 'roasted'. But Lin was puzzled by the dragonfly's flight. It didn't look like it had given up because it couldn't find its prey, but more like it was hiding from something …

"Boom …"

The loud noise from afar confirmed Lin's worries. As the Flyer flew to a high altitude, Lin could see that in the North of the desert, a mass of yellowish-brown fog had covered the entire desert. The fog was several dozen meters tall and over a hundred kilometers wide, and it was constantly rumbling as it moved towards them.

That wasn't an ordinary fog, but a sandstorm made up of countless grains of sand!

This word suddenly popped into Lin's mind. She now knew why the worm dived into the sand.

What should she do? The Leviathan in the worm's body should be safe, but the Flyers were likely to be wiped out.

That was the only way. Lin ordered the Flyers to fly in the opposite direction as fast as they could. The sandstorm was not very fast, and Lin believed that they should be able to escape.

Not long after the Flyer flew, Lin noticed that the sandstorm suddenly stopped as if it had run out of energy. The yellow sand that had gathered also dispersed and disappeared in a short period of time as if it had never been there.

Isn't this a little too weak? It's nothing compared to a tsunami.

After the sandstorm stopped, the worms once again burrowed out of the sand and continued in the direction they came from.

The journey in the desert continued. The Flyers followed the worms in the sea of sand. During this time, nothing special happened until the day slowly faded away.

The Flyers did not have much nutrients left. Lin wondered if she should decompose some of the Flyers. She did not know how far the worms would go.

The desert's night and daytime were two extremes. The temperature at night was so low that it could freeze water. In the cool environment of the night, the worms moved much faster, but Lin still did not know where they would go.

Lin realized that she could let the Flyers rest on the worms' heads. Perhaps because they were too small, the worms would not even bother with them. This would save a lot of energy.

However, the night was soon over, and the day was coming. The worms did not stop moving. Their stamina was quite strong. Although their speed was the opposite of their attack speed, it was still very slow.

However, they did not stop.

The Flyers could not stay on the worms' heads during the day. Their carapace would become very hot, even hotter than the sand, but their insides did not seem to be affected.

Relying on their special heat-resistant ability, they moved through the desert, but the journey was too long. After another day and night, Lin had decomposed many of the Flyers. Now, only five of them were left.

After another day and night, Lin only had three Flyers left. They were severely exhausted, and the worms were not in good condition either. Except for the one that ate the Leviathan, the other two had disappeared. They had all burrowed into the sand. Lin did not know if they were dead or where they went.

Now, only one worm was moving forward.

The Leviathan had enough nutrients to last for a long time. But now, even though the worm's two companions were dead, Lin couldn't just kill the worm and come out. Otherwise, Lin wouldn't know where to go in the vast desert.

The worm had also become weak, and its speed had slowed down. Lin suspected that it would also die here.

If that was the case, the Leviathan would be trapped in the desert.

However, after another day and night, the worm's endurance had exceeded Lin's expectations. It was still moving forward without stopping. Lin only had one flyer left, but it finally discovered something other than the desert in its field of vision.

A few hundred meters away, in the desert, there was a large patch of green.

Is that … water?

Lin could clearly smell the smell of water coming from that direction …
