章節 20: Potions
"I could actually run some experiments and try to brew some elixirs with these materials!"
Blanc said as he couldn't wait to try creating the elixirs.
If he is successful, these four kinds of elixirs will help boost not only the productivity of the village, but also the strength of the military.
"Especially this red mushroom! This will help me create a potion of.."
"Yes!! Yes! That one did…"
Blanc's words were cut short by Helena butting in some of her own words regarding the red mushroom.
Upon remembering that Blanc would probably be mad about her eating some unknown mushroom. She stopped speaking.
"Hmm? What did you say? Why do you know something about this mushroom? huh?"
Blanc bombarded Helena with questions
"W..We..Well, Y..You.. see, d..doesn't it look pretty? There look! it's glowing and all that shit!"
"Ohh yes, you see, this is the amazing part of this mushroom, it has a health restoration attribute!"
"O..Ohh!! Th..That's cool! Haha…hahahahaha…" Helena chuckled nervously.
She managed to find an excuse this time! She must remember to not babble about such things in the future or Blanc will nag endlessly again.
"Well then, you should rest early for now. I list the necessary ingredients of the elixirs and see if we can acquire them."
After their conversation ended, Helena breathed a sigh of relief and returned to her hut while Blanc was in full nerd mode.
Blanc went back to his own hut and listed the major and minor catalysts needed for the elixirs. In addition, he wrote the recipes of each elixir down from his memory.
The recipes for these elixirs weren't exactly a secret.
However, since the catalysts were thought to be extinct, no one can brew the elixirs even though the recipe for these elixirs were just in everyone's local libraries.
Blanc was in his own world, very eager to try out his theories.
He quickly listed all the necessary ingredients for the creation of the elixirs.
Blanc was elated when he confirmed that they currently have all of the required ingredients for making a health potion.
Turns out that the only hard ingredient to gather is the mushroom of vitality (red glowing mushroom), and the other materials are very common.
He prepared all the needed materials in a table along with the necessary pots, pestles, and other tools.
"Hmm.. okay.. Let's start by cutting up these herbs.. then use the mortar and pestle to crush these herbs.. Boil water in the meantime, then finally add in the herbs, a cup of sake, these fruits and that.. Then lastly, add in one whole mushroom of vitality."
Blanc was lost in his own world as he followed the recipe of the health potion.
Although his movements were a bit crude, they were enough to get the job done.
After letting the brew boil for a bit more, he finally removed it from the fire and let it cool at the side for a few minutes.
"Hmm…After this cools down, it should be able to be a lesser health potion since I only had one mushroom of vitality for now."
Lesser health potions can only heal shallow wounds and restore a bit of stamina to the user. This should come in handy though as one pot of the brew can be made into 15 lesser health potions.
Although not that potent, these lesser health potions will be of great help to the warriors when they go deeper inside the Forest of Echoes in the future.
Twenty minutes passed and the brew has cooled down by now. Blanc immediately divided them into 15 small containers.
*Slit*
He gave his forearm a shallow cut to test the effects of the potion. Coupled with his tiredness from brewing the lesser health potions, he can fully try the healing and slight energy restoration effects of the potion.
*Gulp*
Blanc consumed one lesser health potion.
Three seconds passed and nothing was happening.
Just as Blanc was starting to get worried, the cut slowly began to close and a faint glow can be seen during the healing process. In addition, the exhaustion from brewing the potion is now gone.
It turns out that it takes 5 seconds for the potion to take effect.
Blanc quickly took out one lesser health potion and went running towards Helena in excitement.
He directly entered Helena's hut without even knocking and he was panting in exhaustion from sprinting. Fortunately, Helena was not in the process of changing her clothes at that moment.
"Woah..Woah, calm down Blanc. What happened?"
Helena asked in confusion.
"L..Look at this!" Blanc said while raising the small container in front of Helena.
"What's that?"
"It's a lesser health potion! Your future expeditions or missions will be a lot safer from now on!"
Blanc then proceeded to explain to her the effects of the lesser health potions
"Shit! This can turn the tides of a war.. If only we had this during that time.."
Helena muttered in regret upon learning the effects of a lesser health potion.
She remembered the war on her father's domain and they might have been able to delay the rebel forces until reinforcements arrived if they had this potion.
Although she had tried the red mushroom herself, the effects weren't this instantaneous.
It needs a couple of minutes before the full effect can be felt and it was not suitable to use when in the middle of a fight.
The lesser health potion on the other hand takes effect in 5 seconds and it was extremely suitable to consume even in the middle of a skirmish.
There's no use in thinking about the past though.
After a few moments, she asked Blanc to give her 11 potions for emergency use.
In Blanc's mind though, this is not the only use of the potion.
They can amass huge amounts of funds for their village development upon selling these potions in the surrounding countries.
The future is looking bright and the Forest of Echoes now truly started to be one of their strengths.
