Mrs. Lee opened her mouth wide, unable to close it for a long time.
Was she still her daughter?
What was wrong with this family? Now, the elder daughter seemed to have changed into a different person. She dressed up gorgeously every day and went out. The younger daughter had also changed from her previous obedient and docile character to a strong character.
Even her son was not close to her anymore.
Her husband was not around and the family was in chaos.
Sam's eyes darted between the mother and daughter. He realized that Brittany's attitude towards her brother was completely different from her attitude towards her mother.
For some reason, he instinctively felt that Mrs. Lee must have done something wrong.
Mrs. Lee was shocked for a long time before she saw Sam. She pouted at Sam and said, "You are my son-in-law, why don't you control Brittany."
Brittany interrupted her coldly. "This is my brother-in-law."
"My husband died the day we got married."
Mrs. Lee was shocked once again. "Oh..."
The kitchen had two doors.
Sam saw the awkward situation and left through the back door.
After going out for a walk, he happened to see Chris coming out of the shower, so he went in to help pour water.
Chris entered the kitchen. Brittany took out two pancakes from the cupboard without any concealment.
Mrs. Lee looked at Chris munching on the pancakes, and tears silently flowed down her face.
She didn't know if it was because she was hungry or angry.
Brittany lowered her eyes. "Mother, there are some things that I will only say once. If you can take it in, then so be it. If not, then forget it."
"First of all, your body. If you continue to lie down like this, your body will never recover. Don't cry in the future and get up more often. In at most one or two months, your body will get better and needn't take medicine at all."
She had originally thought of getting some medicine for Mrs. Lee, but on second thought, she was lying in bed crying every day. It would be a waste of food, so she decided to forget about it.
"What's more, as the saying goes, being a mother makes a woman stronger."
"Father was missing. You're a mother, so you should take on the responsibility of being a mother. Take care of the family and take care of Chris."
"If you continue to be muddleheaded, this family will completely fall apart."
"Chris is like a wild child without parents now. If Father comes back and asks you in the future, how will you explain it to him?"
Mrs. Lee's lips quivered. After a long while, she said, "Will your father come back?"
Brittany was speechless.
She had said so much, but her mother's focus was only on her father.
Fine, there was no point in saying it.
She walked past Mrs. Lee and went back to her room to get a towel to dry Chris's hair. Mrs. Lee did not get anything to eat, so she cried for a while and went back to her room trembling.
Brittany made Chris's hair half-dry and tied it up loosely for him. Then, she said, "I have to go back. Stay at home and be good."
She got up, found and held her bag in hand. When she went out, she saw Sam waiting in the courtyard. They went out one after another.
After walking a few steps, Chris ran out of the house and hugged Brittany's waist, crying non-stop.
"Brittany, I can't bear to leave you. Please don't leave."
Although he was young, he knew that with Brittany gone, no one at home would care whether he bathed, ate, or slept.
On the day he lost his father, he also lost his mother.
Brittany was heartbroken by Chris's crying. She patted his head, squatted down, and hardened her heart. "Chris, you can't rely on anyone in this world. In the end, people can only rely on themselves."
"Remember what I said. Try to cook, bathe, wash, and find out a way to survive on your own."
"If anything happens, go to Green Mountain Village and look for me."
