Zane and I embarked on a journey toward Mystic Falls, a half-hour walk or so ahead of us. The atmosphere during our trek was enveloped in an uncomfortable silence, and each step felt like an eternity. Amidst the melodic symphony of bird tweets and the rustling of leaves in the forest, I couldn't help but notice the rhythmic sound of Zane's heavy breathing as I trailed behind him, mirroring his every step.

As we ventured deeper into the woods, Zane finally broke the silence, though he continued to avoid making eye contact with me. It wasn't until we arrived at a babbling stream that he abruptly halted our march. He settled on the weathered bark of an almost lifeless tree, silently gesturing for me to join him. I took my seat beside him, ensuring there was a reasonable distance between us, my bewilderment growing with the sudden cut of our movement.
