章節 18: 18. You are allowed to cry
'How am I going to assist her without offending her?'
George was puzzled, especially when Anna wrapped his neck with her arms. He had already made her furious by breaking his promise about showing up last evening and he didn't want to do anything that would make Anna more upset.
George does not only get worried whenever Anna is upset, but he is also usually scared. He hated to see Anna's reaction to his action that had annoyed her so he was being careful.
George had to wrap her waist to keep her balanced but was hesitant. What if she slaps his face? 'Oh, Lord,' he prayed and slowly brought his hands around Anna's waist.
George was looking down at her and could see that Anna was also wondering how she was going to balance without making use of her legs.
When George saw that Anna didn't make any retort after he circled her waist gently, he tightened his hands around her and carried her, causing Anna's upper arm to rest on his shoulders.
This action brought Anna's face close to his but Anna wasn't focused on that. She was only staring down at herself.
George doubted that she even knew how close she was to him. If she did, she'd have pushed him away as if he had some disease.
'His hands are so strong' Anna thought. Her legs were not even touching the floor. They were hanging in the air and this was because his strong arms were around her waist.
'Or am I the one with less weight?' Anna wondered before lifting her head to look at George.
Anna had the thought that George's face was still above hers but not until her lips brushed his. Anna was alarmed by what happened but she wasn't affected.
Anna did not even care. She was focused on feeling comfortable standing straight even though her legs weren't doing the job.
Just like her Dad, George happened to be strong and this impressed Anna. George's action made Anna remember her father, bringing a positive mood.
Anna's father was the source of her strength in her past life and he'd continue to be her strength. His memories would strengthen her.
'Okay, I think I'm satisfied'
'I feel exhausted as well'
But when Anna looked at George to inform him to let her sit on the chair, she found him dumbstruck.
Anna stayed in that position for a few minutes, studying the man standing in front of her and holding her tightly with care.
'He's so willing to help me. Should I trust him?'
Anna's memories about George were enough for the new Anna to trust George but that was also the way her step-family and boyfriend were and they still betrayed her so George had to prove himself.
'He saved Anna and stayed with her for four years. Does this mean that he's really willing to help me save my new life?'
Anna pondered and eventually got tired of remaining in that position so she pulled George's hair.
But her action only made him smile like a child and his ear got redder.
'What the hell is he thinking about?! I guess it was a bad idea to let him assist me. It has gotten into his stupid head'
"Master George! It wasn't a kiss so get back to your senses!" Anna uttered nonchalantly.
George closed his eyes and nodded his head.
"George, stop!" Anna didn't exclaim but George could hear her scolding him.
He opened his eyes still with that smile.
"I'm your soon-to-be wife?" Anna brought the topic up.
George chuckled, and his babyish attitude made something in Anna's heart move.
'I don't like this feeling, it's making me feel weak'
"I'm sorry," George uttered.
"Well, I understand why you did so," Anna's remarks surprised George.
"You…aren't you offended by it?" George asked.
"You are enjoying this, right?"
"What?" George drew Anna's body closer.
Anna glared at him and tilted her head, "Let me sit!"
"Ah," George was confused as he didn't even know that he was enjoying how close Anna's body was to his.
When George placed her to sit, he began to miss the feeling of having her body damn close to his.
"You know, I was expecting you to slap me because I called you my woman," George, sitting on the bed, said.
Anna ignored his statement, watching Niko cling to George.
"Do you think I can slap you with my weak hands?" Anna drifted her gaze from Niko to George.
"That's right," George said. "Did I offend you with it?" George asked again.
"I told you already that I understand why you did so," Anna repeated.
"Anna?" George called her name abruptly. "I've never conversed with you with such ease," he uttered.
Something in Anna's heart felt like a bang. 'He is right'
"I'm sorry about everything that happened," George said. "But please don't think I'm using your situation to my advantage, I just want to help you."
Anna narrowed her gaze at him. "You want to help me?" Anna asked.
"There are some things you don't know about yet and when I wanted to tell you about it, you kept shutting me out.
I found out that the death of your best friend wasn't an accident but when I went to find you, you got hit by Wang Lixin's car. I had to save you that night. I was damn scared that you were dead.
The doctor said that your brain was very much damaged and that you might die but you only stayed in a coma. While you were in a coma, Wang Lixin and your second sister tarnished your reputation.
That's why I hid you. The police are after you while Wang Lixin thinks that you are dead, so please you have to listen to me and don't be stubborn. You need my help."
Anna was shocked to hear such news. "Why are the police after me?" She asked, staring into space with anger consuming her heart.
"To the public, you killed your best friend because you think she's having an affair with your boyfriend," George explained, studying Anna's reaction to know his next move. He hoped that she wouldn't burst into tears.
Anna had trusted her boyfriend blindly and had made so many sacrifices for him but he ended up killing her.
"Anna?" George went closer to her and squatted before her. He was hesitant to take her hands but he did.
Anna's head was lowered and she was crying.
'I'm not supposed to be in tears but my best friend. I'm being accused of killing my best friend. How could they do this? How could my second sister do this to our friend? My boyfriend…I never knew he could be this heartless'
'Oh, why am I feeling so Anna? These aren't even my life experiences and memories but why is it so painful?'
"Listen to me, Anna," George looked up at her while Anna looked into his black eyes. She allowed him to take her hands and they felt warm from his touches.
"You are allowed to cry."
George uttered after staying quiet for a while. He was thinking of what he was going to say to comfort her but then he realized that there was nothing he could say that would change everything that had happened.
Anna had the right to cry as everything that happened was grievous, especially because every unfortunate thing that happened was caused by the people she trusted with her life.
