Anna Jadwin curled into a small ball, softly calling out, "Daddy..."
Wayne Bailey's heart softened instantly, as he spread out her curled-up limbs and covered her with a blanket.
Tears spilled from Anna's eyes as she trembled and whispered, "It hurts so much..."
Wayne's fingers paused, and he asked in a husky voice, "Where does it hurt?"
"It hurts..." She muttered and cried in pain.
The immense pressure of survival, mental stress, and the dwindling life left her in a world of pain.
...
In the morning, Anna woke up from a night of drunkenness with a splitting headache.
A large hand pressed on her head, "Does your head hurt?"
Seeing Wayne Bailey's magnified face, Anna's heart tightened, and she turned her head away.
It hurt everywhere on her body, and no one cared!
Wayne gently pressed the fingers on her head, massaging her temples, "If it still hurts, I can take you to the hospital."
