The sky outside the villa was gradually darkening; it was already dusk when they arrived, and now it was completely dark.
Suzanne Trent rose to leave, but William Ease tried to make her stay, "Wouldn't you like to stay for dinner before leaving?"
"No need."
Seeing her getting ready to leave, William also stood up, glanced outside, and spoke, "I have a meeting here tonight and can't leave right away. Let my car take you back to the city?"
Suzanne glanced at the time and then at the cars outside. It wasn't an easy place to hail a taxi, and ordering a ride online would probably take a while to arrive. She didn't decline the offer.
William escorted her to the front gate of the villa. He was about to accompany her outside to help her board the car when a well-dressed foreigner approached him and started speaking in American English. Suzanne turned back and said, "You can continue working. I can leave on my own."
