Lily didn't dare to stay for long. She glanced at Mommy, who was wearing a nightgown with a coat on top. She wasn't sure what her mom was up to this late, but she noticed Uncle Turner arriving and went back to her bedroom with a satisfied grin on her face.
After hearing Lily go to the bathroom and then climb back into bed, Suzanne glanced in her daughter's direction before looking back at the man sitting motionlessly on the sofa with his eyes closed.
She looked at his shirt and the messy hair from being pushed onto the sofa by her not-so-gentle actions. Suzanne felt so angry that she wanted to throw him out but still quickly took a thermos from the coffee table and poured him a glass of warm water, bringing it to his lips.
"Drink some water. Here."
Suzanne tried to help Mason King drink the water as she held his head, but he didn't move and just leaned against the sofa's backrest, seemingly sound asleep.
