Chapter 209: The Power of Light And The Power of Darkness
At 8:00 in the evening, at the Hikigaya residence.
Having taken a bath, Hachiman, bored out of his mind, lay on his bed. The two volumes of his manuscript for the month had already been sent to Sonoko yesterday, so he didn't feel the need to rush into more writing.
Feeling a bit idle, he decided to check the modules he had currently loaded.
After maximizing the first module, his "cheat code" seemed to gain a hint of humanity, allowing him to choose to turn off the module loading prompt sound. Hachiman was quite satisfied with this, as nobody wants a mechanical sound popping up in their mind randomly; that's just creepy.
Due to intentional or unintentional loading, he had lost count of the number of modules he currently possessed. Listing them all would probably take two or three pages, but he won't do that here.
Apart from the "Learning" module, the first batch of loaded modules such as "Kendo," "Physique," "Cooking," and more were about to reach their maximum levels.
Since the "Learning" module reached its maximum level, Hachiman noticed a change. While the natural increase in proficiency remained at 10 points per hour, the proficiency gained through practice increased exponentially.
For example, if practicing for an hour originally yielded one hundred proficiency points, with the support of the maxed-out "Learning" module, it could now yield two hundred, three hundred, or even more.
This resulted in a rapid increase in his module proficiencies. Especially when a module was just loaded, the proficiency needed for the first three levels wasn't much. With ample practice, he could reach level three in just one month.
So now, among the modules Hachiman possesses, except for the recently loaded ones, none are below level three.
As he scrolled to the bottom, he suddenly discovered two special modules.
[Power of Light Lv1 (60/1000)]
[Power of Darkness Lv1 (60/1000)]
Seeing these two modules, Hachiman felt puzzled.
Power of Light? Power of Darkness? What's going on?
From the proficiency calculation, they should have been loaded during the afternoon home economics cooking class.
He had some clues about the Power of Darkness, probably stemming from the strange fish Satania brought; given that it was a fish living in the demonic lake, it's not surprising that its flesh contains the Power of Darkness.
But how about the Power of Light?
Hachiman recalled that during the class, Gabriel patted him on the back. Could it be related to that?
Regardless of how they came about, as long as they loaded successfully, they were his to use.
Focusing his mind, a faint white light slowly appeared on his right hand. Although it seemed weak, it was undoubtedly holy light.
Dispelling the holy light in his hand, a purple-black light reappeared in his right hand. This was the so-called Power of Darkness.
Seeing that both powers could be used smoothly, Hachiman nodded in satisfaction. However, he suddenly had an interesting idea—left hand Power of Light, right hand Power of Darkness. He started juggling the light globes between his hands like a circus act.
While Hachiman was amusing himself, in an apartment across the way, a faint holy light appeared in Gabriel's room, and then Raphiel's figure emerged through the holy light.
"Gab, you called me over so late. Did something happen with Hikigaya-kun?"
"Yes, during today's home economics cooking class, I secretly used holy light to scan Hachiman's body," Gabriel's expression was unusually serious.
"Through the scan results, I found that this guy Hachiman's physique has completely surpassed human limits, reaching five times or even ten times."
"Moreover, his body has a high affinity for holy light, which is consistent with the characteristics of the hero recorded in the books."
In fact, not only holy light but with the support of the maxed-out "Learning" module, Hachiman had a high affinity for any elemental energy, as evidenced by his ability to gain the Power of Darkness from just a bit of fish.
However, Gabriel being an angel can only use holy light, thus she can only perceive Hachiman's affinity with the holy light.
"So, can we basically confirm that Hikigaya-kun is the hero?" Raphiel spoke up.
"Eight or nine out of ten." Gabriel nodded.
"That's why I called you here today. I wanted you to notify Heaven since you should have a way to directly contact them."
She lacked a direct communication method with Heaven, and reporting this matter would require her to return to Heaven personally—an option the girl, already immersed in gaming, wouldn't willingly consider.
So, Gabriel entrusted this matter to Raphiel, believing that her family's influence would surely provide a method for direct communication with Heaven.
Sure enough, the girl had it.
"Yeah, my family spent a lot of money to get me a communicator that can directly connect to Heaven."
Raphiel nodded as she spoke, taking out a device resembling a phone from her pocket.
Hearing this, Gabriel breathed a sigh of relief. "Then I leave the reporting to Heaven to you."
"Leave it to me." Saying this, Raphiel opened the communicator and pressed a special button.
After a moment, a voice emanated from the communicator.
"This is the Heaven Command Center."
"World number 13065, reporting an event involving the stationed angels, Raphiel Ainsworth Shiraha, and Gabriel White Tenma." Raphiel's tone became notably serious as she reported official matters.
"Go ahead."
"We've discovered the presence of a hero in this world. How should we proceed?" Raphiel continued.
"A hero..." The voice from the communicator paused.
"I will report this situation to the higher-ups. Before that, please refrain from contacting the target casually."
"Understood." Raphiel responded, then hung up the communicator.
Putting the device back in her pocket, the girl looked to Gabriel and spoke.
"Alright, Gab, let's hold our ground until Heaven issues commands."
"Yeah, now we just have to wait for Heaven's message."
With official matters reported, Gabriel sighed in relief and quickly picked up her computer, immersing herself once again in her gaming journey.
Seeing her like this, Raphiel sighed.
"I'll leave now, Gab. If there's any news from Heaven, I'll let you know."
After saying this, a flash of holy light, and she was no longer in the room.
With official business handled, Raphiel returned to doing what she enjoyed.
Like training Satania.
As Raphiel departed, the room was left with the rhythmic sound of Gabriel tapping on the keyboard.
