"No, I have to find Ronald!"
Just after class, Harry left in a hurry with his book in his arms, leaving the sentence hanging in the air. It was unclear whether he was escaping Luke and Hermione or genuinely looking for Ronald.
"Why do I feel like he wants to stay away from us?" Hermione asked, turning her head sideways and squinting her brown eyes.
"Just a feeling," Luke said, stroking her curls and whispering.
"It's all your fault!" Hermione shook her head, not letting his hands mess with the hair she'd carefully styled all morning.
Why do I always get the blame? Luke thought with amusement as he watched Hermione stand up to leave the classroom.
He put his book into the Shenwei space, then got up and followed her.
As for Lockhart, he left the lecture silently, his face devoid of its usual smile. The events of the previous night had left him shaken. He still didn't understand his state—was he dead or alive?
On the balcony on the seventh floor of Hogwarts, a place more like a large platform with intricately carved pillars, stone benches, and tables, many owls flew by under the blue sky. This spot was a popular place for students to rest, chat, and for young couples to meet, like Hermione and Luke .
"Are they playing cards?" Hermione leaned on Luke 's arm, looking curiously at the piles of little wizards around her.
She could see that the cards thrown out shone with a blue light, much like the cards Fred and George made.
"Almost everyone at Hogwarts knows about the Weasley twins' Hearthstone cards. Even Professor McGonagall bought a set," Luke explained with a chuckle. He was surprised at how popular these magic-infused cards had become, even drawing interest from Professor McGonagall and Headmaster Dumbledore.
"Is it really that great?" Hermione asked, her mouth slightly open in disbelief. She had been very interested in the cards initially, but her excitement had waned over time.
"Fred and George are planning to hold an end-of-semester competition in June. The winner will get fifty gold Galleons and a set of limited-edition cards," Luke said. The idea for the competition had been his suggestion, but he hadn't expected the twins to organize it so quickly.
"Fifty gold Galleons?" Hermione tilted her head and muttered to herself.
Fifty gold Galleons is not a small sum; it's even enough for Ronald to buy a brand-new wand.
"Do you want to participate too?" Luke quipped, seeing Miss Hermione's thoughtful expression.
"I'm not going," she hastily shook her head. It was only 50 Galleons, and Hermione had earned enough money with Luke during the holidays to cover her school expenses for the next two years.
"Will there also be a Werewolf game later?" Hermione asked curiously. She was far more interested in this logic game than Hearthstone.
"Probably?" Luke was unsure since Fred and the others were in charge of organizing these things. He was only responsible for making a note.
After chatting for a while on the rooftop, the two returned to the auditorium to have lunch.
"It's over, Ronald really can't be found," Harry said quickly upon seeing Luke and Hermione.
"I've searched the dormitory and bathroom, but I can't see him anywhere!" His tone was a little anxious.
"Didn't you check the green lawn and the Quidditch training ground?" Hermione asked.
"I've been there and found nothing," Harry said helplessly.
"Are you going to tell Professor McGonagall about this?" Hermione suggested.
"Don't worry, I'll look for Professor McGonagall if he doesn't come back tonight," Luke shook his head and said.
In the dimly lit Slytherin basement, Luke made his way towards the entrance of the basilisk's lair. He knew that making too much noise or drawing attention would likely alert Dumbledore, especially given the school's history with the Chamber of Secrets. The memory of the last incident, when the basilisk killed a young witch named Myrtle, was still fresh. Myrtle, who now haunted the bathrooms, had once tried to befriend Luke , though her intentions seemed less friendly and more infatuated.
Luke , now in his second year, had become quite popular among the young witches at Hogwarts. From Gryffindor to Slytherin, many had expressed their admiration for him, but he had gently turned them all down. None of them compared to Hermione, who was not only cute but also incredibly smart.
Hermione, seated next to Luke at dinner, asked softly, "So, you're not going to the Room of Requirement tonight?"
Luke leaned in close, their foreheads touching lightly. "Trust me, this is the last time," he assured her.
Blushing, Hermione stammered, "You... you... this is the Great Hall..."
Luke chuckled, enjoying her flustered reaction. He gently pinched her cheek, smiling. "See you tomorrow, dear Miss Granger."
Hermione's response was barely audible, "Well, see you tomorrow..."
As night fell over Hogwarts, Luke checked his watch. It was already midnight. Ronald hadn't returned, and Harry had informed Professor McGonagall. Luke didn't stick around to find out what happened next; he had other plans. "It's time to see Tom ," he thought to himself. Tom had likely discovered something unusual with the basilisk.
Luke used his abilities to vanish from his bed, reappearing in the Slytherin basement. He descended the long, dark staircase until he reached the entrance to the basilisk's lair. As he entered the cavernous space, he saw a tall, thin figure standing below, illuminated by the faint light.
"Tom , long time no see!" Luke called out, his voice echoing through the chamber.
