Christopher trailed behind Dr Lizard, his excitement raising as they ventured deeper into the cavern. The air grew thick with the musky scent of reptiles, and the sight of countless lizards of all sizes sent made him amused.
Thankfully, the creatures seemed to possess an instinct to avoid danger, thus moving out of Christopher's way as he navigated through the crowded cave.
Finally, they arrived at Dr Lizard's laboratory, a cluttered space filled with rows of bottles and jars. The chaotic mess made it difficult to discern anything specific.
Suddenly, a muffled whimper caught Christopher's attention. He approached cautiously, lifting the lid of a large box to reveal Mary, bound and gagged, her eyes wide with terror as she struggled against her restraints.
Upon seeing Christopher, Mary's fear intensified, her body writhing in a desperate attempt to break free.
Understanding that his appearance had startled her, Christopher made a conscious effort to calm himself, willing his body to relax as he returned to his normal form. It was a familiar sensation, reminiscent of his transformations into a Titan.
Mary's astonishment was palpable as she witnessed Christopher's reversion. Had her mouth not been obstructed, she would have surely exclaimed in joy.
Observing this, Dr Lizard couldn't contain his curiosity. "Christopher, how did you manage to transform back without an antidote?" he inquired.
"I learned to control my emotions," Christopher explained calmly. "Once I regain my composure, I can revert to my human state."
Puzzled, Dr Lizard questioned why he couldn't do the same.
"You have to be fully calm and relaxed, otherwise it won't work," Christopher clarified.
Fascinated by this revelation, Dr Lizard nodded in understanding.
With Mary freed from her bonds, Christopher carefully removed the gag from her mouth before ushering her out of the laboratory, relieved to have her safe by his side once more.
"Christopher, I knew you'd come to save me! I always knew it! I could feel your caring heart..."
"Quit crying like a love struck girl. I only came because Peter begged me to," Christopher clarified in annoyance.
"Why did he have to suffer through all of this unwanted drama. Peter should really grow a spine, for God's sake." He cursed in his mind
Sniffling, Mary insisted, "I'm not crying, I'm happy. Happy that you came to rescue me, happy that you have me in your heart. I'm so glad, Christopher."
Meanwhile, Dr Lizard, observing the emotional exchange, grew suspicious. He interrogated Christopher, "What's your connection with Mary? Are you a friend of Spider-Man?"
Christopher addressed the professor, "Mary and I are just friends, and I wanted to help her. As for Spider-Man, we are strangers. No need to worry; I won't interfere with your Spider-Man endeavors."
Dr Lizard, still cautious, warned, "Don't deceive me, or you'll face consequences even if it costs me my life."
"I assure you, no deception," Christopher replied earnestly.
Unfazed by the threat, Christopher mused to himself, "What if I did lie?"
He believed that once Dr Lizard joined his team, the scientist's dedication to research would overshadow any concerns of being deceived. Scientists, he thought, relished their experiments, and supporting Dr Lizard's research would keep him content, even if there were some deceit involved.
Mary, interjecting, revealed, "Christopher, Dr Lizard kidnapped me, locked me in a cramped box. I was terrified. You must help me seek revenge."
Christopher inwardly sighed, thinking, "Mary, your knowledge is as short as your long hair. Can't you see I trying to recruit Dr Lizard?" Despite this, he reassured Mary, "Forget it, Dr Lizard doesn't know about our connection. It's all a misunderstanding. Now quit it."
Dr Lizard awkwardly nodded, saying, "Yes, it's all a misunderstanding."
Christopher handed a business card to Dr Lizard, instructing, "Pack your things and call this number. Someone will pick you up."
Curious, Dr Lizard asked, "Can I bring my Lizard Legion with me?"
Christopher agreed, "Sure, bring them along. The private island can accommodate them, and you need them for your research."
Smiling, Dr Lizard accepted, "That's good."
"Alright, I'll take Mary with me now," Christopher declared.
"Very well. I'll call you after I'm done packing," Dr Lizard confirmed.
....
Once outside Christopher felt a surge of panic as he realized his spider suit had torn and now little Christopher was enjoying the midnight night breeze.
"Damn," he muttered under his breath.
But Mary surprised Christopher by hugging him tightly, her hands clutching onto him.
Mary's heart fluttered as she looked at Christopher, unable to resist the allure of his presence. "Christopher, I love you," she confessed, her voice quivering with raw emotion, her gaze brimming with sincerity.
"Let's not complicate things," Christopher muttered to himself, struggling to hold in his annoyance.
But Mary couldn't help but pout playfully. "I can't help it," she teased.
"Then I won't entertain it," Christopher retorted firmly, gently pushing Mary away and forging ahead.
Quick to follow, Mary hurried after Christopher, her voice tinged with fear. "Christopher, please wait for me. I'm scared alone. I promise I won't cause any trouble."
Leading Mary out of the sewer entrance, Christopher swiftly scavenged nearby clothes, hastily dressing himself in the dim light.
Observing Christopher's transformation, a flicker of disappointment flashed across Mary's face.
"Come on, let's find Peter. He must be worried sick about you," Christopher said, motioning for Mary to follow.
Grasping Christopher's hand, Mary planted a soft kiss on his cheek. "Christopher, it's late. I'm exhausted. Can't we find a hotel and rest?" she murmured softly.
"Alright," Christopher agreed.
Internally, Mary seethed with frustration. She longed for Christopher to unleash his primal desires, to embrace his inner beast.
"Oh, what a pity," Mary sighed inwardly.
They slowly returned to the now orderly square, devoid of the Green Goblin and Spider-Man but teeming with police officers.
"Christopher, Mary," Spider-Man's voice called out from behind.
Turning, Christopher saw Spider-Man approaching in civilian attire. Gently lowering Mary to the ground, Christopher felt her stubbornly clinging to his arm.
"Peter, I helped rescue Mary. Just remember, you owe me one," Christopher reminded.
Spider-Man nodded solemnly. "Of course, I won't forget." Concern etched his features as he turned to Mary.
"Mary, are you alright? Are you hurt?"
