The first time Dylan Lawson hit me was in bed.

He put his hand on my neck and pinched my chin slightly to force me to look into his eyes.

"What were you thinking then?"

I didn't know how to answer him for a moment. He got angrier after I faltered for a while.

Dylan bent his fingers and squeezed my neck harder, forcing my head backward.

When I thought I was going to be strangled by him, he suddenly let go of me.

There were bruises on my neck.

I felt humiliated and fearful.

It was the first day we lived together and the first time Dylan hit me.

It was just because I joked that the chandelier in the bedroom looked like my ex-boyfriend's.

"Are you still thinking about another man in my bed?"

Dylan whispered in my ear when he squeezed my neck.

Late at night, Dylan brought a cup of hot milk to me, squatted down, and looked up at me.

"Carol, I'm sorry. Let me have a look."
