Lily
"OKAY, Detective. We’ll meet you there in ten minutes." Jerome hung up from his call but gave his phone a good scowl to make sure the inanimate device understood his irritation. "Anderson said you’re safe to go in and grab clothing."
At the thought of returning to the building where a few hours earlier I stumbled over a dead body, my stomach twisted.
"Are you sure about this?" I wasn’t asking about the clothes, and we both knew it. "I can get a room at the hotel, or I bet Katy would let me stay with her."
She acted like she liked me, even though I didn’t know her well. I didn’t think she’d turn me away if I needed a couch to sleep on for a night or two. Especially with the dead body circumstances.
Jerome, who already sounded agitated, white knuckled the steering wheel to his fancy car. "Lily, you’re saying with me and that’s final." He punctuated each of his words. He’d been doing that a lot lately. "I’ll sleep on the floor if you want, but you’re not leaving my sight."
