I’d stayed in many hotels over the course of my life and had eaten in many hotel restaurants, but none other was quite like the bed-and-breakfast in Pelican Bay—the one my cousin just purchased. Only time would tell if that was a good or bad thing.

The floors creaked with age as I walked down the hallway, making my way to the lobby to check in for dinner. Pierce needed to make a multitude of improvements to the old building if he planned to bring it up to Kensington standards.

A tall blonde draped herself on the other side of the check-in desk in the lobby, surrounded by the blue walls and carpeting.

"I have reservations tonight under Kensington," I said, giving her my best megawatt smile. It never failed.
