I never thought in a million years that I would have another pack. Not like the one Lavender and I have formed by accident. I had never considered having children. It seemed so pointless without a pack and a true mate.

Lavender had given me everything. I lay in bed and listened to her breath. I wasn’t sure what had woken me up. I wasn’t even sure how we stayed in the position we had dosed off in, but if I didn’t move her, she might have drowned in the puddle of drool she had formed on my chest.

I gently slipped out from underneath her. She didn’t stir or make a sound. She continued to sleep with a goofy smile on her face. I probably could have laid there and watched her, but the problem my father seemed determined to create ate at the back of all my happy thoughts.
