章節 37: “Interrogation”
Yamamoto was a little surprised to hear that he was recognized. The last time he met the marines they didn't recognize him and his reward poster had already been posted a few days ago, *I guess they did some of his work* thought Yamamoto.
"Yes, that's me. Were you looking for me?" asked Yamamoto, staring directly at the marine who felt a shiver from the gaze of this elderly man.
"O-of course, after you murder so many marines, it's obvious that they will send troops to capture you" replied the marine with fear in his tone.
*My reputation is finished...* thought Yamamoto annoyed to be branded as a serial killer, although he had killed a lot of marines, they wanted to kill him in the first place and started bombing his home island.
"How many ships and marines have you sent?" asked Yamamoto, although this marine did not seem to have a very high rank, he must have some idea.
The marine upon hearing this question did not answer and looked down, so as not to meet the old man's gaze, "That's how things are..." said Yamamoto as he walked towards one of the bound marines who were still unconscious.
Watching as Yamamoto approached some subordinates, the marine put on a fearful and nervous expression, "W-what will you do?" he asked stuttering.
"As they're of no use, I will kill them one by one. I can't let them go free, as they would inform everyone of my position," explained Yamamoto in a calm tone. After that, he knelt slightly and his hand became engulfed in flames.
As his hand was about to burn the face of one of the marines, the Marine leader exclaimed, "Wait! If I answer your questions will you let us go?" he did not want to see his subordinates burned alive, so he was willing to give information and then be punished by his superiors. This was better than death for everyone.
"Of course, as long as you don't lie you can make it out alive" Yamamoto replied as his hand returned to normal, "F-fine" the marine said as he sighed calmly as he watched Yamamoto walk away from his subordinate.
"So, approximately how many ships and troops did they send?" asked Yamamoto again.
"I don't know how many exactly, but it's a lot. I heard that they called all the West Blue bases to create a network to find you" replied the marine after a few seconds. Hearing this the expressions of Olvia, Roche, and Bram turned ugly.
*All the West Blue troops to find us...? I underestimated the importance those World Government bastards gave to the Ohara issue* thought Yamamoto with a frown. Luckily so far they only encountered one of all the ships they sent to find them.
At first, he thought they would only send Cipher Pol troops like they initially did with Robin, but too much of the story changed and all the archaeologists had survived, so the degree of danger to the World Government was greater.
"Why are there so few marines? Your ship can hold many more" asked Yamamoto scratching his beard.
"To set up the network they needed many sentry ships, and there aren't enough marines in West Blue to fill that many ships" replied the marine.
They couldn't leave the bases empty, as there were still other criminals in the West Blue, plus their task was only to identify suspicious ships and report immediately, so they didn't need to be many marines.
"What exactly was the order you were given?" asked Yamamoto.
"Once we spot a suspicious ship report to the general base" replied the marine.
"If that was their task, why did they approach an unfamiliar ship knowing that we could be here?" Yamamoto asked, raising an eyebrow.
If their task was just to find them, upon noticing a suspicious ship they should act more cautiously as 5 marines wouldn't stand a chance against Yamamoto.
"That... from afar we didn't see anyone suspicious and since they didn't show up a month ago, we didn't think you would find yourself on this ship" replied the marine embarrassingly, Yamamoto looked at him as if he was a fool.
"This is not the first ship we have inspected!" exclaimed the marine trying to defend his incompetence.
"How many troops did Marine HQ send?" asked Yamamoto again.
"I don't know... the only thing I know is that they sent a high-ranking marine to lead all the West Blue troops to get the network put together" he replied.
*Most likely they sent a vice admiral, I don't think they sent an admiral for such a thing. Besides, they can't send too many troops to the West Blue since they would leave the Grand Line, where the most powerful pirates are located, uncovered* concluded Yamamoto.
Moving in the West Blue with this network would be very dangerous, luckily the fleets they sent are from this sea and are somewhat incompetent, otherwise they would already know their position or more people would know about their suspicious ship.
*I have an idea...* thought Yamamoto while having a slight smile, that the marine seeing this felt a shiver run all over his back.
"As one of the sentry ships you must know where the other ships are right?" said Yamamoto.
"Y-yes..." replied the marine leader with a bad feeling.
"That's good, if you don't want to burn to death along with your poor subordinates, you'll have to guide us to the Kingdom of Ilisia, unseen by any sentry ships" explained Yamamoto.
"If we are spotted and our position is revealed you know what will happen to you, right?" asked Yamamoto with a kind smile, while patting this marine's shoulder.
*H-he's a demon* thought the marine leader, as he nodded his head understanding Yamamoto's words.
"Well let's move on to your ship, we'll head to the Ilisia Kingdom on it" said Yamamoto looking at Olvia and the others.
"What will happen to this ship?" asked Roche.
Although Yamamoto didn't want to leave this ship, it was too much work to have to handle 2 ships for the few people they were, and he would have to separate Olvia, Roche, or Gram on one ship, while he is on another. Since he doesn't fully trust Lego and Ralph.
Besides, the two ships are much more conspicuous, and by using the sentry boat of these marines they will be able to go unnoticed, "We'll sink it" said Yamamoto.
If someone found it abandoned here, it might raise suspicion and cause their position to be revealed, so this was the best option.
After a few minutes they all went over to the Marine ship, Lego and Ralph were in charge of taking the tied-up Marines to the ship. They also grabbed all the important things, like Nelson's money, since they would need it to buy supplies and other things.
"Do we sink it with cannon fire?" asked Lego to Yamamoto.
"No, I'll take care of it" said Yamamoto.
After that he approached the railing of the ship, stretching out his index finger, he began to create in it a large amount of fire that gave a ball shape, similar to the mini sun he used to destroy the buster called ships. Only the size was much smaller and the heat it radiated was less.
After a few seconds of finishing creating the fireball on his index finger, he fired it in the direction of the ship.
BOOM!
The fireball hit and quickly scattered over almost the entire ship and started burning it, unlike the mini sun he used earlier, this attack could not turn this ship into ashes instantly.
After a few minutes, the fire already spread throughout the ship, the flames consumed the wood and made the structure unstable. Before long, the ship begins to sink due to the burned holes in the hull, allowing seawater to enter and accelerate the process.
*Not bad at all* thought Yamamoto, before with the measly 12 points he had in his devil fruit mastery, it would be impossible for him to accomplish this feat.
"Alright, let's go. Set the ship in motion" ordered Yamamoto to Lego, Ralph, and the leader of the marines who had freed him. As for his four subordinates, he locked them up and would use them as hostages to prevent any foolish attempts.
Thus, their journey to the Kingdom of Ilisia continued, with only 1 day and a half left to reach it.
