The serpents of Orochimaru and Gamabunta stared at each other, poised for a potential clash.
"This kid...!"
It was Gamabunta 's first encounter with Tsunade and Orochimaru. He initially thought both of them were akin to mischievous demons like Jiraiya. Yet, as he carefully sensed the aura emanating from Orochimaru's form, Gamabunta found himself growing uneasy.
"This sensation... Truly an intimidating presence!"
A bead of cold sweat formed on Gamabunta 's brow as he felt an ancient, chilling, and formidable aura. It was as though he wasn't facing a mere ninja, but rather a colossal serpent, choosing to either embrace or devour him.
This aura seemed beyond Orochimaru's control, and Gamabunta's mind began to conjure an ancient legend about the origins of the Mount Myōboku.
With narrowed eyes, Gamabunta disregarded the three imposing snakes beneath Orochimaru's feet, their fangs ready for action. He leaned in and inquired in hushed tones, "Jiraiya, who is this kid?"
"Ah, this is my teammate, Orochimaru. What's the matter, Gamabunta?" Jiraiya seemingly presumed that Gamabunta was taken aback by Orochimaru's prowess.
"Orochimaru..."
Gamabunta 's demeanour grew even more solemn.
"This presence he exudes is deeply discomforting. Be cautious, I'll make my exit for now!"
Without waiting for Jiraiya's response, Gamabunta transformed into smoke and vanished, leaving Jiraiya sprawled on the ground in bewilderment.
"Jiraiya, why isn't your summoning beast very hospitable? Did it get frightened away?"
Tsunade playfully jibed at Jiraiya's dismay.
"Hey, this time Gamabunta is truly unreliable!" Jiraiya chimed in, scratching his head.
The most exasperating thing for individuals is to seem overly ostentatious and flaunt their wealth rather than impressing others. Nevertheless, Jiraiya wasn't one to get entangled in such concerns.
There had to be something else that he had overlooked.
"Orochimaru, may I ride one of your serpents?"
Tsunade's eyes gleamed with envy as she gazed upon the two summoning beasts. There was no denying her admiration. She unreservedly grabbed hold of the scales on a large serpent, playfully turning them a couple of times.
The massive serpent jerked, seemingly inclined to bite her, yet its actions remained restrained under Orochimaru's command. All it could do was emit a low, guttural hiss as Tsunade perched atop its head.
From that elevated vantage point, Tsunade peered down at the others, a sense of superiority flooding over her. The thrill of being above it all surged through her.
Indeed, grand summoning beasts naturally bestowed an air of superiority. Anyone who stood astride a Tailed Beast, and those with a Susanoo at their disposal, regardless of their strength, could exude an aura of power, and even Orochimaru with Eight Branches Technique was in awe observing Susano.
Standing tall afforded a broader perspective—bigger was better, naturally! Tsunade decided to discuss the prospect of obtaining a Slug summoning contract from her grandfather, the Second Hokage.
"Orochimaru, what have you been up to lately?"
Sarutobi suddenly appeared, his gaze fixed on Orochimaru. For some unfathomable reason, an inkling of doubt and concern niggled at him whenever he laid eyes upon Orochimaru.
If this had been a prior encounter, Orochimaru's shadow clone wouldn't have evaded Sarutobi's notice.
"Sannin: Sarutobi-sensei!'"
Sarutobi Hiruzen offered Orochimaru a look of both astonishment and intrigue, but more than anything else, a sense of relief washed over him. Truth be told, he had come in search of Orochimaru's "Body Strengthening Elixir."
Though Orochimaru had given Tsunade the elixir for her own good, the situation was anything but uncomplicated, given Tsunade's position.
Back at their base, Tsunade had guzzled down the elixir, Tobirama and Uzumaki Mito nervously observing the effects. Yet, it became clear that Tsunade's strength had indeed amplified without any discernible side effects.
Tobirama might have disdainfully regarded this level of power, but if the elixir could be produced en masse, it would eclipse both Military Ration Pills and Detonating Talismans as a critical strategic resource.
Furthermore, this initial product was only the beginning. Engaging in forbidden arts and cellular research, Tobirama viewed this elixir as a strategic resource of paramount importance.
While Orochimaru had given Tsunade the elixir under the pretense of a "family ancestral secret," with steep costs attached, Tobirama wasn't fully convinced. Reflecting on Orochimaru's previous creation of the Mystical Palm Technique, Tobirama had discerned the genius-level researcher that resided within Orochimaru.
Though he felt a degree of consternation over Orochimaru's surreptitious administration of the elixir, Tobirama had made a silent determination: Orochimaru's talents were worthy of nurturing. He kept this decision concealed, even from Danzo.
"Orochimaru, you've truly unearthed remarkable creations within your experiments, and now even my old mentor seeks to follow your lead."
Sarutobi playfully bantered, his jest evoking a swift response from Orochimaru, "Oh, it's nothing, merely an accidental discovery during my research."
Orochimaru wiped a bead of sweat from his brow, having underestimated Tobirama's discernment. The matter of the elixir's significance hadn't crossed his mind at the time. He had acted hastily and was fortunate that no consequences had arisen.
"Hereafter, a dedicated research facility shall be made for you. The laboratory you previously occupied has been expanded, affording ample space. Additionally, you are entitled to research privileges and funding," Sarutobi disclosed, a smile curving his lips. "Can your body strengthening elixir' be mass produced?"
"Regrettably, the manufacturing process is highly intricate," Orochimaru replied, careful not to reveal the depth of his ongoing cell research. Such revelations might instigate a chilling response.
"I extend my gratitude for Lord Hokage's benevolence," Orochimaru expressed, his countenance humblly. "However, Sarutobi-sensei, I humbly request that my research remain confidential."
"Very well," Sarutobi concurred, yielding to Orochimaru's wishes. Though he desired access to the laboratory, he respected the young shinobi's boundaries.
"Orochimaru, what discussion transpires?" Jiraiya interjected, intrigued by the cryptic dialogue. He perceived Tsunade's astute observation and Orochimaru's increasing favour with the Second Hokage.
In the camaraderie of learning medical ninjutsu, Jiraiya couldn't help but wonder at Orochimaru's rapid ascension. Could clandestine classes with Aunt Koharu account for this surge?
"Jiraiya, allow me to present a marvel," Orochimaru exclaimed, retrieving a small blue vial.
"What is this?" Jiraiya questioned, intrigued.
"Consume it now," Tsunade urged, curiosity piqued by Tobirama's approval of the elixir. Orochimaru's creation was akin to a commendation.
Orochimaru's distorted expression bespoke the effort involved. His treasure held immense value—something his counterparts would learn firsthand.
"Aaaaahhh!!"
Jiraiya's shriek resounded akin to a wounded boar, convulsions wracking his form.
Despite his efforts to contain discomfort, the pain etched across his features revealed the effect of the elixir.
Tsunade fought back laughter as Orochimaru aimed a cold glare, an exasperated "roll" directed at the writhing figure.
Undoubtedly, Jiraiya's agony rivalled that of any dying person. If viewers were unacquainted with the context, they'd presume Jiraiya consumed lethal venom.
Sarutobi's face twitched, his expression bearing a semblance of alarm.
Jiraiya recuperated quickly due to Mount Myōboku's tutelage, and his swift recovery following the ordeal affirmed the elixir's potency.
"Orochimaru, you're a lifesaver!" Jiraiya extolled, deeply moved by the transformative experience.
"Get lost!" Orochimaru retorted, concealing a trace of gratification.
Though the incident elicited amusement, Orochimaru desired to discuss a matter of great importance—knowledge of potent ninjutsu gained from Mount Myōboku.
"This technique belongs to the grand toads, traditionally a cooperative endeavour. Yet, I've harnessed it singularly," Jiraiya elucidated, signalling his intent.
"We await your demonstration," Orochimaru remarked, captivated by the prospect. Engaging in a battle of wits, Jiraiya's choice to demonstrate the technique captivated Orochimaru's curiosity.
"Shadow Clone Technique!"
Jiraiya summoned a clone, which commenced its ascent with steadfast determination. Its progress, however, was accompanied by a conspicuous expansion of its abdomen.
Tsunade barely stifled laughter, the spectacle reminiscent of a constipated individual rather than a powerful ninja technique.
"Is this an attempt at constipation?" Tsunade mused, suppressing her laughter as the clone's abdomen swelled further.
"Perhaps a Toad Oil Flame Bullet?" Orochimaru speculated, his keen insight ascribing intent to the absurdity.
Orochimaru comprehended the situation, impressed by Jiraiya's manipulation of toad oil. This mastery of fire release and the incorporation of oil constituted an unparalleled force, rivalling even the fearsome Amaterasu.
The unforeseen utilization of toad oil left a profound impact. Its application in combination with fire ninjutsu suggested a ferocity akin to napalm, resilient and merciless.
As the toad oil-infused flames approached, Orochimaru countered with Earth Release—Earthen Wall. The clash of elements resulted in the nullification of Jiraiya's assault.
While water held little sway over Jiraiya's flames, Orochimaru's mastery over Earth Release fortified his defense. The jutsu's efficiency demonstrated Orochimaru's strategic acumen.
"You've certainly cultivated a powerful ninjutsu," Sarutobi noted, his admiration apparent. Mount Myōboku's teachings yielded remarkable results, and Jiraiya's command of this technique underscored its prowess.
Though Jiraiya's fire style was potent, its potency waned when employed in isolation. This assessment had profound implications, for the coupling of toad oil and fire jutsu would yield devastating effects.
As the confrontation subsided, Orochimaru marvelled at Jiraiya's toad oil fire bullet. This method, while effective, could reach unparalleled heights when combined with a toad's chakra, augmenting its power exponentially.
Orochimaru realized that should Jiraiya and Gamabunta collaborate in executing this technique, Orochimaru's initial exposure to toad oil would culminate in a profound setback.
But Jiraiya alone still can't break past his defenses.
