“I need a drink,” Kaitlyn groaned, going behind the bar and shaking her head. “Gentlemen?”
Nico nodded. “Jack, please.”
“Royce?” Kaitlyn sighed, looking over at me. I didn’t answer her, trying to piece together everything I’d just learned. There was so much information in a short time, and I couldn’t get my brain to slow down.
Carrigan had just…left. We all let her walk out the door, and that was it. There wouldn’t be another chance. This wasn’t like when we had dinner with my parents and gave her time before I returned to apologize. This was the end. She stopped at that door, turned to the three of us, and thanked us for everything. We couldn’t save her.
She was walking into the battlefield alone, and I had a feeling she wouldn’t survive long.
