"Welcome back everyone!" The crowd roared as the dean once again stood in the center of the coliseum. "I hope you all found instructors that could help you achieve your goals or found your dorm and place of residence from now until you leave, but that's not why you all came back here so why don't we just start by bringing out our three contestants." The dean waved his hand to an opening in the arena which signal Mill, Lacey, and Tyra to come out. As they left the hallway the crowd started to cheer like crazy. The three contestants waved at the people as they moved toward the dean eventually forming a small line on his right side.
"Now, as you all can see, these three were accepted my little challenge for them earlier and believe that they have what it takes to go against their upperclassmen. Do I have that right?" The Dean Pix turned to the contestants, and they all nodded in unison. "That is great. Now! You all might be wondering just how I'm going to choose the match ups for these first years. The answer to that is simple, but it will take a small little lesson that some of you may know, and some may not. The lesson is about how the rankings of adventurers are decided and how that relates the adventuring academy." The dean cleared his throat.
"As you all know there are many heroes in our history, ranging from the first, Kinteth Yenders, to today as more heroes are being created daily, but there are some key differences in all of them. Legend, Myth, Tale, Warrior, Nobody. These are the five rankings that heroes can have, and each rank tells a story about the hero. We have Legends, who have accomplished great achievements that were thought impossible like beating a demon lord solo with the use of their mighty ability. Myths, People who have done many great things with their unique ability but nothing so great as to leave proof of it except for a few people that may have seen it. Tales, these people have liberated towns or beaten low ranking demon royalty with minimum help by using their abilities in tandem with others. Warrior, these people fought in war and accomplished great things with the use of the small abilities that they had. Nobodies, in layman's terms they have no achievements or abilities."
The crowd, including the contestants nodded to show that they understood the adventurer rankings now. "And some of you have the abilities that represent each one of these rankings. For example..." Dean Pix walked over to Tyra and gestured to her. "Tyra's ancestor is a Myth-rank adventurer and in that case, she has a high chance of reaching that level making her school classification be Myth." The dean moved to Lacey and once again gestured to her. "Lacey here is of a Legend-rank bloodline so she will be classified as a Legend." The crowd started to nod as they now understood how this was going to work.
"When I picked the MVPs, I chose them as the best of each classification that a student could represent. From Legend..." Dean Pix moved his hand from Lacey all the way to Mill. "...to Nobody. And so, each of our contestants will be fighting against an upperclassman of similar classification to see if they hold up to the standards. Does that sound fun, everybody?" The crowd cheered to show that it was in fact fun.
"So, starting now to two weeks from now our contestants will be clashing with their upperclassmen one by one. This one may be at the start of the week but the others will take place at the end of the week so I hope to see you all there because I'm sure all of these will be exciting." The crowd started to applaud as a sign that they were already enjoying themselves.
"Great, then let's get started with Miss Tyra Kendall of the Myth-rank classification. You two may go sit in the rest area and watch if you wish or you can just leave. The choice is purely yours." Mill and Lacey nodded and moved to go back to the rest area as Tyra started to stretch.
"So, your ancestor is the legendary Qailnique Prometheus. That would explain your amazing control of light magic." Mill spoke to Lacey as they headed toward the rest area. "Yeah, it really amazing actually. For years dad would tell me that Blaze was watching over all of us, but I had the potential to ask him for help and I never knew what that meant until the Heroite." Mill could tell that something was bothering Lacey and had a feeling that he knew what it was. "Look if my being a Nobody bothers you, we don't have to be friends. I mean, I understand that hanging out with a nobody with an unknown bloodline and no ability is strange so I wouldn't be offended or anything."
"No. No no no, I don't have any sort of problem with it. It's just...it doesn't feel right to call you a Nobody just because you didn't inherit an ability or don't have a known ancestor. It's just...I don't know I just don't like it." Mill and Lacey were silent until they made it to the rest area and started to watch the match on screen.
"Now for the opponent of Miss Kendall we have Nate Omopal." From the opposite tunnel that Tyra had entered from a male student that seemed a few years older than Tyra walked in. "This match will be quite interesting and Tyra a flame magic user while our friend Nate uses water magic. The rivals since the dawn of time. Now let's get this battle started. Are each of you ready?" Tyra pulled out her mace and Nate drew a spear. Then the fight starts..." The crowd was nervous with anticipation. Tyra and Nate were staring each other down ready start at any moment.
"...NOW!" With that Tyra pounced at Nate immediately to try to get the first hit in but it seemed that Nate anticipated that as he quickly dodged to the side and hit Tyra with the back side of his spear causing her to lose balance and fall. Tyra quickly got off of the ground and launched three fire balls at Nate, but he quickly put up a wall of water making them nothing but steam. Nate launched the wall of water at Tyra causing her to jump over it and letting Nate get in another strike. This sort of pattern continued of Tyra trying to land hits on Nate but him predicting them and countering with a hit of his own. The situation seemed to be completely under Nate's control and Tyra couldn't do anything when suddenly Nate went on the offensive.
From the due to her mace Tyra obviously had the advantage in a close-up battle so Nate's action seemed reckless, but Tyra saw it as her chance to turn thing around and went to deflect the tip of Nate's spear with her mace but, to her surprise, she felt no impact with her mace and got hit directly in the stomach. Nate then fire a powerful stream of water from the spear tip and sent Tyra flying and ended the match due to her loss of consciousness. Most of the crowd cheered as the battle was quite interesting despite how one sided that it was while others felt bad for their fellow first year.
"The battle is officially finished meaning our winner is Nate Omopal." Dean Pix approached Nate as he called out the match results causing another cheer in the crowd from the upperclassmen that were present. "Now Nate during that final attack it seemed that Tyra tried to block your spear, but it failed somehow. Would you mind explaining that to us because that seemed to be the decisive moment of the match." Nate leaned into the mic as he explained.
"That's a simple question to answer dean. My ability is Semi-permeability, and it means that I can make one object that I'm touching go through other objects so at the supposed moment of impact I just activated my ability and finished it." The crowd cheered once again for the battle as Tyra was now waking up. "That's all for today folks. I hope to see you all next week for the clash of Legends!" The crowd cheered as people started to leave. The exciting first day at the academy was finally over and it was time to prepare for things to really get started.
