After running into the Aeulwuin city guard Karl and Mill were brought to the Aeulwuin Police Department and got placed into a holding cell. The officer that had brought them in was currently standing in front of them and shaking his had. "Why would you two ever think of going out of the city? Do you have any idea what could have happened if I hadn't shown up?" The officer was currently reprimanding the two boys.
"I apologize sir. You see, I just recently got into the city two weeks ago from the Bloodbane tribe and didn't know that you couldn't leave the city without permission. It's really all my fault and Mill just followed along with me." Mill was shocked to hear such words from Karl. He was trying to take the blame for everything so that Mill didn't get into trouble. Karl's kind act struck a chord within Mill.
"I understand that, young man. But that doesn't explain why you were nude when I found you." Karl had been placed in a prisoner's uniform for the time being seeing as he didn't have his own clothes with him. "Realistically, your friend will go home with his guardian and you will stay here for another day, if not get sent to prison immediately for public indecency." Karl froze with fear as the idea that he could go to prison woke him up.
"Me? In prison? No, My modeling career has just started I can't go to prison now!" Mill could only shake his head at the Karl as he freaked out over the early end of his modeling career. "Excuse me, can you move me to another cell? My cellmate his being really annoying and I don't really know him that well." Mill asked the guard.
"Mill, how could you say that? When we were out in the field we shared our secrets with each other. I thought we were friends man." Karl was appalled that the man that had been imprisoned with him could be so cold after all the time that they had spent together. Though, that time was just a few hours but it was time nonetheless.
"Don't worry, your actually free to go. Your guardian got here just a few minutes ago." The guard opened the cell and to let Mill out while Mill was hesitant to leave the cell since he knew what was likely to come next. Still, he knew that he would have to face his family again eventually. Especially after what he had done yesterday.
"Wait really! Mill see if you can convince the people that came for you to get me out too. I really don't want my agent to see me like this." Mill walked out of the cell while ignoring Karl's words. "Mill, please. We're friends right? Don't leave me here like this!" Mill continued walking until he reached the door to the holding cell room. He turned and faced Karl with a sinister smirk. "That sounds like a you problem." Mill left the holding cell room with the betrayed Karl and went upstairs to the reception hall where his aunt stood waiting for him.
"Before you start yelling at me let me just apol-" Before Mill could finish someone had tackled him to the ground and when he looked at the person he saw his older sister's face buried into his chest. "Nova! What are you doing here?" Mill went to push his sister's body off of him but she clung to him tighter than before.
"She was worried about you, Mill." Mill looked up and saw that Jenny had now approached the two of them and knelt beside them. "After you disappeared yesterday, Nova spent the entire day running around the city looking for you." Mill could understand why his sister was so worried. He suddenly ran away when he got told that he had no bloodline and didn't show any sign of return. Guilt started to creep into Mill's mind.
"Hey Nova, could you get up? I haven't taken a shower since the day before yesterday." Nova slowly pried herself off of Mill's shirt and looked him in the eyes. She and this intensely silent stare that she held for a few seconds before speaking.
"Don't ever run away without me again. I thought that you had left me behind and abandoned your big sister to brave the world by herself. What would I do without a caring little brother that just loves to pamper me?" Nova's mood improved slightly as could be seen with her returning to her old personality.
"Don't worry, My big sister would be absolutely useless without me so I could never just leave her alone." Mill smiled gave as small smirk to his big sister and stood up. " Now, why don't we all head home. I was serious about needing that shower." Jenny and Nova nodded at Mill and the small family of three returned home.
…
"I really needed that." Mill had made it home, ate and took the shower that he so longed for. He went into his room and fell onto his bed. He relished in the familiar feeling for a bit before he mind started to wander.
"So what do I do now?" In the past two days Mill had experienced so many different things that he felt like at least a month of his life was taken away from him. He got told that he didn't have a bloodline only to discover that he does have one but his ancestor's story was not recorded down in history for whatever reason. Then, he found out that he has an ability that he can't control unless he has full control over his emotions that he has never been able to control in his life.
Growing up Mill was a very emotional kid. He would get into fights with just the slightest provocation, start crying if he heard something even slightly sad, and fell in love with a woman if they so much as glanced in his direction. Emotions had always ruled Mill's life and now he would have to gain full control over them lest he become unable to appropriately use his ability.
"This is all such a pain. And it all started with that dream that I had yesterday. Stupid traumatic memories." Mill remembered the scene from his dream vividly. His family home burnt to ashes, his friends and neighbors running through the streets screaming as the fire spread, and his mother and father's lifeless bodies laying on the ground in the midst it all. He hadn't had a dream about it it in years so he had almost recovered fully, but he could never fully escape from the past.
Mill felt himself sink further into his bed as he thought back to how much fun he used to have with his parents and big sister. He could feel the air dampen a little as he thought more about it and got more nostalgic. He felt the tears dropping from his eyes, but quickly wiped them off. And that was when he also noticed that there was a small cloud above his head. It looked like at any second it could start to rain.
"Did I do that? Great, does feeling sad give me the water magic? I hate this stupid ability sometimes." Mill calmed himself down until the cloud went away them he thought about his next plan of attack. "Okay, so now that I know a bit more about my ability I just need somewhere to practice it that won't end with Jenny having to come pick me up from the precinct." Mill sat there for a minute considering his options when he suddenly remember something that he could do.
"That's right, I'm 16 now. I can apply for an adventuring academy. There I can practice with my ability and gain experience so that I can improve faster without getting in trouble." Mill pulled out his phone and searched for adventuring academies that he could enter without much trouble and it didn't take long for him to find a website for an academy called Golden Lion. The website said that all he would need is apply and show up to the testing site. Mill immediately applied and checked when the next test would be taking place.
"Tomorrow! That's not as much time as I would have hoped, but I guess it will have to do." Mill got the confirmation that he had registered for tomorrow's test and could barely contain his excitement as lightning started to fly around the room. "This is where my journey truly begins." Mill clenched his fist and calmed himself down to stop the lightning. "Lets just hope everything goes well at the test."
