章節 13: Chapter 13: Buzz

Before heading to the press conference, Warren and his secretary, Nyvia, had a conversation in the car.

"The press conference seems livelier than I imagined," Warren commented, glancing at the assembled reporters and their equipment.

"Yes, it seems like everyone is interested in our collaboration," Nyvia replied, unaware of the recent developments.

Indeed, it was better for her to remain uninformed. Without the extensive intelligence network of Hydra, it would be impossible to know about such matters.

"It's going to get even livelier soon," Warren said with a smile.

"Oh?"

...

"Today, the New York Police Department will officially sign a contract with Worthington Industries for the Spider Silk Launcher. As we have witnessed over the past month, the Spider Silk Launcher has played a significant role in several violent incidents..."

The reporters had already begun their commentary, and the press conference was about to begin.

However, at that moment, a group of people approached, and the security guards and police at the entrance were unable to stop them.

Carlos furrowed his brows as he received a report from his subordinates and looked at Warren.

Warren, on the other hand, remained calm and wore a faint smile.

"FBI, Warren Worthington, please come with us," one of the newcomers said, presenting his identification.

"What's going on, Jonathan?" Warren asked, before Carlos had a chance to speak.

It was disrespectful for them to arrest him on such an important day. They clearly did not show respect for the police commissioner.

Jonathan and Carlos seemed to know each other. "I'm sorry for the disturbance at this time, but we have just received a report with substantial evidence linking you and Tony Stark's kidnapping to terrorists. We need you to come with us to assist in the investigation."

Jonathan didn't want to get involved in this mess either, but a case involving terrorists was not as simple as the recent incident where Warren hired mercenaries to kidnap mutant criminals. It had to be taken seriously.

Click, click, click...

The sound of cameras clicking filled the air as the reporters were taken aback. What was happening?

It was too exciting. I can't help but grab some popcorn!

"In addition, Oscorp has officially filed a lawsuit in court," a well-dressed elite stated.

Everyone's attention shifted to him.

"Who are you?" Warren deliberately asked.

"I am from the legal department of Oscorp..."

"It seems you are not here to serve me with a subpoena. Security, escort him out."

Without giving him a chance to finish speaking, Warren had the two men beside him immediately remove him.

"It seems an unknown person has infiltrated. Let's continue our previous topic," Warren said, dismissing the matter.

"He doesn't seem threatening. No need to worry about him."

"Warren Worthington, your Spider Silk Launcher is nothing more than a theft of Oscorp's technology. We have been researching it for over a decade, and you have never had any related research. How could you suddenly come up with a complete set of technology? It's clearly theft!" the unnamed elite shouted before being escorted out, the surrounding reporters capturing the scene on camera.

After the man was taken away, the reporters immediately swarmed around.

"Mr. Worthington, is what the lawyer said true?"

"Mr. Worthington, is your technology really derived from Oscorp?"

"Is Tony Stark's disappearance really related to you?"

"Did you have premeditation against Stark Industries?"

"Did you engage in unethical competition in the business world?"

"Will today's signing ceremony continue?"

...

Questions flooded in like a tsunami. The news was too explosive, and no journalist could pass up this opportunity. Tomorrow's headlines would undoubtedly be dominated by this!

Warren didn't answer; he simply raised his hand, signaling for everyone to be quiet.

Soon, the room fell silent, with microphones thrust in his direction. FBI agent Jonathan had been pushed to the outer circle by the frenzied reporters.

"If time allows, I would be happy to answer each of your questions one by one. As you know, I rarely decline interviews. But not today. Mr. Jonathan from the FBI already had a prior appointment with me."

Jonathan wiped the sweat from his forehead.

Warren Worthington, this young man was known for being easy to interview and eager to be in the spotlight. Today was not a good time for him to assist with the investigation.

"But," Warren's tone suddenly changed, and Jonathan's heart skipped a beat.

"But before assisting Mr. Jonathan with the investigation, I believe I can answer three of your questions. Is that okay, Mr. Jonathan?"

As Warren looked at him, with reporters eagerly waiting, Jonathan could only nod.

"Three questions, and each statement you make may be used as evidence in court."

"Okay, only three questions. You go first," Warren said, pointing to a familiar female journalist, Kristin.

He was quite familiar with this female journalist, as she had interviewed him twice before, and he had even bought some "interesting" photos from her.

Kristin promptly posed her question, displaying professional decorum despite their past dealings. After all, for a journalist, the news was more important.

"Mr. Worthington, is it true that you are involved in Tony Stark's kidnapping? And do you know anything about it?"

"That's two questions. Firstly, I have no involvement in Tony Stark's kidnapping. Secondly..."

Warren paused for a moment and then smiled. "I do know something."

In an instant, every television screen was filled with Warren's smiling face as the cameramen captured a close-up shot.

The scene erupted into a commotion, even FBI agent Jonathan was dumbfounded.

My goodness, did he just confess?

Saying that in a public setting is a serious matter!

Ignoring everyone's astonishment, Warren then pointed to a familiar male reporter.

"Regarding what I know, I won't reveal it here. Kristin asked two questions, so one question opportunity remains. It's your turn."

Eddie Brock reacted quickly, snapping out of his shock. He asked, "Mr. Worthington, how do you respond to Oscorp's accusations against you?"

"Are you sure you want to ask that? It's a pretty straightforward question."

Eddie looked around and then nodded, "Yes, that's what I want to ask."

There was no choice. You said you wouldn't disclose what you know, so if I don't ask this, what else can I ask?

"Alright, if you have paid a little more attention to this matter, you should know that Oscorp's spider silk is produced using genetically modified spiders, while our Worthington spider silk is manufactured using a silk solution. The difference is like leather products and plastic products. One is sourced from another organism, while the other is entirely human-made."

Warren clapped his hands. "Alright, questions are done. If you have any more, perhaps you can wait until I leave as a guest of the FBI."

He looked at Carlos. "Maybe we need to reschedule."

Then he turned to Jonathan. "Time is precious."

...

Warren was taken away by the FBI, but everyone felt that he had been prepared. His confident image left a deep impression.

Meanwhile, Warren's secretary, Nyvia, returned to the company. Before the press conference, she had a discussion with Warren in the car. The main topic was...

Planning a celebratory party!

Apart from that, Warren only took the photos she had purchased from Kristin. However, those would be enough. Nyvia was appointed by the chairman, and she was previously loyal to the old Warren Worthington and now to the new Warren. While others couldn't see Warren's intentions in dealing with Jason, she and Jason himself understood it clearly.

"...By the way, as a side note, but please quietly, not so cautiously, tell Jason that this time I'll have a miraculous escape. No matter what he does, don't stop him," she remembered Warren's words to her before the press conference.

Nyvia, as a representative of the chairman, had no choice but to follow orders. She didn't believe that Jason stood a chance because Warren had known what would happen before it even occurred.

The difference was too significant.
