"I cannot go back to sleep, insect of flesh. You must know we stir for years before fatigue drives us to slumber."
"Yes. But Witches have appeared since the last time one of your kind went to sleep. Their Magic is different. I am certain it can return you to your restful peace."
The Shadow fell silent for a few seconds before speaking. "We are enemies. Our peoples have fought for millennia. Why would you risk offering me a peaceful alternative?"
"There's a colossal rock floating above you, in case you hadn't noticed it." Kier pointed up with his index finger.
The Shadow looked up and verified it.
"And I will drop it if I have to," said the Mage. "I'm not risking anything. But all I've ever known of your kind are stories. Bloody and wrathful war stories. I hated them. I want to see if you can help me write a different kind of story."
