章節 69: Prelude to Battle

I sat on the stratoscopter that was headed to the United Kingdom with S3bastian on my side. Among us were others wearing the medical uniform from Overwatch. I was content to just sitting quietly and minding my own business, but I noticed that a young woman was glancing my direction occastionally.

After a while, she decides to get up and head to the vacant spot next to me.

"Hello there, couldn't help but notice that you guys are some newer faces and just wanted to introduce myself. I am Dr. Mindy Cristobel, pleased to meet you Mr...."

I keep myself from rolling my eyes. After my monumental failure at the interrogation, S3bastian knew that they were definitely going to stick someone on me to watch my progress. No doubt this was the plant that was going to supervise my actions in the UK.

"Shawn Rose at your service, and this S3bastian." I introduce us to her.

S3bastian holds his hand out to her, "Meat bag." As if she didn't even hear him, she shakes his hand. As I made no attempt to further the conversation, she just takes that opportunity to continue.

"I bet you're wondering how this mission is going to go. I've done this before, so I'll just share my experience. Thankfully, Britain has done quite the job of holding the omnics from the fallen City of London. But they've been slowly losing ground.

So, we'll be holed up in the city of Nottingham. They do the fighting, and we just heal the injured. From experience, I know that at first the injured trickle in, then next thing you know, you're swarmed with everyone needing assistance.

Beds are in limited quantity, therefore, prioritize the more gravely wounded." As she speaks, I tone her out as she literally reiterates everything that was said at the debriefing. I even knew that she was the Head Medic on this mission. I had no idea if this was her way of strictly stressing that we were just healers on this mission and not to mess it up.

I had little intention on messing anything up, as I hardly ever had a chance to be a solely a healer. This mission gave me a chance to focus on healing. When I first started playing Overwatch, I started on the support role. It was something about the satisfaction of keeping your teammates alive.

Seeing that I wasn't responding, she seemed content with the lecture she just gave me and returned to her original seat with a small smile on her face. Thankfully, it was a peaceful for the remainder of the flight, with a comfortable landing.

Stretching as I exit the stratoscopter, I take a second, ignoring the English soldiers lined up to escort us to our destination, to admire the city. The military was actually a good way to travel abroad, as I went to Canada beforehand. I didn't get a chance to soak in the city there, but I won't make that mistake again. Looking around, I noticed the mixture of Victorian, Georgian, and modern architecture that added to the city's appeal.

Following the soldiers, our group of thirty medics are led to their hospital, where we are sent to a boardroom for further instructions. He thanked us for our support, as the local doctors were elsewhere, and only a few nurses were available. He explained that the omnics were expected within the next three days, and they would be defending the city.

The protocol, should they fall, was for everyone to evacuate to the next city where they would defend that one as well. Should they hold off the omnic attack, they were to go on the offensive and try to retake the previous city.

Keeping in mind that we were to get attacked at any moment, we were advised to remain on standby. Everyone left the room, but I waited with S3bastian to talk with him.

"Are you able to heal?" I asked him, not remembering if I programmed it to him.

"I can put them out of their misery." He suggests.

"That's ok, leave it to me. Defend the hospital, if necessary, to allow me enough time to escape, then fall back to regroup." I command him.

He stands, giving me a salute as he heads outside. I sit outside, thinking that the omnics will attack at any second.

After an hour passes with nothing happening, I decide to try to heal someone. Walking over to the nurse's station, one of them points me in the direction of someone who hasn't received care yet.

Walking into the room, I see an elder man on the bed in a hospital gown, wheezing as he breathes. Coming close to him, I almost begin to immediately get to work before I suddenly wonder if those that are older will respond to me probing with bioelectricity. Deciding to go on a different approach, I grab his medical chart.

Looking at the paper, I get a sudden realization. I have no idea as to what I'm staring at or what I'm looking for.
