章節 18: Gnoll
As Aaron and his companions approached the Green Zone, his heart began to pound in his chest, and his arms couldn't stop shaking. He couldn't tell if it was because he was excited about what was in store for them or because of the unexpected that could occur inside the Tyrant's Mighty Tower.
They had arrived at the mountain's summit, but their path had been obstructed by a furious player, a very familiar one. The one who had been pursuing them since the beginning of the Pre-trial.
The Gnoll raised his head, his fur bristling in the wind. Aaron shuddered as the Gnoll's eyes glinted with a fierce hunger.
"We don't have time for this," Liam grumbled as his Ash Phoenix Flame melted and burned the icy ground beneath him. "We need to get into the Green Zone before the time runs out."
The Gnoll snarled and bared his teeth. "I remember you, boy! The boy wonder who was blessed with the Eternal Black Flame. You are a worthy opponent that I can't kill with the little time left," he growled.
"Give me one of your allies, and I'll let you go," the Gnoll smirked, stroking its unkempt beard. "What do you think, boy wonder? We could be good allies."
Liam realized they didn't have much of a choice. They had to enter the Green Zone before the timer ran out, or their mission would be jeopardized. But after what happened with Alexandria, he wouldn't even consider the Gnoll's proposal.
"I'll do it," Aaron bid as he took a step forward. "I'll let him kill me so you can all live, Liam; I've been nothing but a hindrance to you since you met me."
Liam's heart skipped a beat and jumped to his throat. "No," he said firmly, grabbing Aaron's arm and pulling him back.
"We can't risk losing anyone; we'll find another way," Liam said, nodding to Colleen.
Whoosh-!!
Without hesitation, an arrow flew by the top of the mountain, slicing the violent blizzard.
The Gnoll's eyes widened, his lips curling into a malicious grin. To avoid the arrow, he turned his body without much effort. "You really think that would work?" he snarled, lunging forward to attack, his spiky mace with a long chain swirling around him.
Liam and his friends sprang into action, but one of them stood still. The Gnoll was a formidable foe, and they needed to dispatch him quickly.
Liam's heart was racing as he struck the Gnoll's head with his flaming feet, but the enemy's Health Points were barely reduced. "You made the wrong decision, and as a result, your great potential will come to an end right here and right now!"
With one hand, the Gnoll grabbed Liam's leg and threw him back into the air.
Liam was being thrown around in the air like a kite by the raging blizzard. Instead of fighting the blizzard, Liam closed his eyes tight and tried to feel the wind. While suspended in the air, he continued to sense the pattern of the violent wind and used it to add momentum to his spin.
When he opened his eyes, he saw Kaiser, Aaron, and Sharky closing in on the Gnoll. The Gnoll's gaze was fixed on Liam, and his spiky mace was hovering above him.
"Arghh-!!"
The head of the spiky mace slammed Liam back onto the ground, red blood gushing from his mouth.
"Liam!"
While their three allies were attempting to annihilate their long-ranged tanky enemy, Colleen rushed in to assist him. Colleen helped Liam stand by carefully wrapping his arm around her neck.
Because of the progression of the situation, Liam failed to notice Axis, who stood motionless, watching.
"What? Were you scared?" Liam raised an eyebrow at Axis.
Axis glared at Liam, her eyes questioning Liam's motivations. "Scared? That's not in my vocabulary, idiot! I'm just trying to figure out how all of you can't see that we can't beat that guy in less than two minutes; don't you think we should be thinking about who to sacrifice right now?"
"What?" Colleen felt the heat rising within her body, creeping toward her neck and face in outrage, despite the cold weather. "After everything we've been through, you're seriously considering sacrificing one of us as if it's nothing? Is that why you're not helping?"
Colleen took a step forward, grabbing Axis' clothes and pulling the blue-skinned woman in closer.
"Remove your filthy hands, Draconian; this will be my final warning," Axis replied nonchalantly as her name beneath her feet turned red, indicating that she had left their party and was now an enemy.
