After the note from Samantha's Father, he explained that the whispers she had heard were Marius's ways of controlling her mind to his advantage. His heart had stopped upon jumping into the conclusion that Marius was his wife's soulmate, but when she broke down after reading the letter, he felt her pain, and that denial in his heart returned– the denial that his little lamb belonged to someone else.

From the little information he had gotten from the letter, Marius was the sole owner of the Mystic Orb. He hadn't done further research on the enigmatic demon until the day he inquired more about Marius from Viktor.
