章節 29: Chapter 29 - The Investigation Task

Skalain settled into the inn, finding solace in the familiar surroundings after a day of negotiations and successful sales. As he relaxed, a voice broke through the ambiance, accompanied by a friendly smile. It was Jareth, the enigmatic figure who had crossed paths with Skalain before.

"Skalain, my friend!" Jareth exclaimed, his voice carrying a note of genuine warmth. "Care to join me for a drink? There's something I'd like to discuss with you."

Skalain glanced up, meeting Jareth's gaze. He weighed his options for a moment, considering the potential benefits and risks of indulging in conversation.

Ultimately, he saw no harm in hearing what Jareth had to say, especially considering their shared history.

"It would be best for me to hear him out, as more rejection will create animism." I do not have the power and knowledge to take on an organization in my current state."

"Sure, why not?" Skalain replied with a nod, acknowledging Jareth's invitation. "I could use a drink and some company."

Together, they found a table in a corner of the inn where they could speak more privately. Jareth leaned back comfortably in his chair, his eyes fixed on Skalain.

"There's a job that needs to be done," Jareth began, his voice lowering to a conspiratorial tone. "An investigation, to be precise. We need someone skilled, observant, and resourceful."

Skalain's curiosity piqued as he listened attentively. He understood the value of his own abilities, honed through his experiences as a necromancer and hunter. Investigating a murder, especially one involving a necromancer, presented a unique challenge that appealed to his skill set.

"Why me?" Skalain inquired, his voice laced with genuine interest. "Why do you think I'm the right person for this task?"

Jareth's smile widened, his eyes glinting with a mix of intrigue and confidence.

"Skalain, my friend, I've seen your potential," Jareth responded, his tone filled with conviction.

"Your mastery of necromancy and the feeling you are giving it to me make me think you are a good candidate for this task. Besides, there's something in it for you too. You have a personal connection to the world of necromancy, and this investigation could lead you to the answers you seek."

Skalain's thoughts raced, his mind delving into the possibilities that lay ahead. The allure of uncovering secrets, seeking justice, and satisfying his own curiosity all converged in this single proposition. The mention of a necromancer's involvement only added fuel to the fire burning within him.

A sense of determination settled over Skalain's features as he met Jareth's gaze.

"Alright," Skalain declared, a spark of resolve in his voice. "I accept your offer. Let's find this murderer."

Jareth's smile widened further, satisfaction evident in his expression.

"Excellent!" he exclaimed, his voice tinged with anticipation. "We shall begin our investigation soon, Skalain. I will pay you twenty-five gold coins now, and after we finish our job, you will be paid twenty-five more."

Skalain stopped for a second and smiled.

"So, having connections and meeting with others does increase my chances of finding things to do and making some gold coins."

Jareth said that they will be starting the mission in the night, and he has five to seven hours of time to prepare.

After leaving the side of Jareth, Skalain went upstairs to his room and started to look for a spell to find out if he could find any that would help him in the matter of investigation.
