The magic abilities demonstrated by Mary and Haytona were slightly beyond the basic level.
However, the important thing was that the flagbearers had only been training for about a month. Jin couldn't understand the rate of growth of his siblings and blinked his eyes.
It was because achieving such feats was impossible without possessing talents on the level of Jin and Valeria.
[Since the lord young patriarch knows well about the process of growth for mages, the achievements of the flagbearers will be even more surprising.]
"Could it be that my siblings have genius talent in magic?"
[Surprisingly, the flagbearers have a strong sense when it comes to magic. However, they are not a genius like you, lord young patriarch.]
"Then...?"
[I have been passing on the memories of my own experiences learning magic to the flagbearers. It can be called a form of inheritance.]
The succession temple left behind by Histers, the record mages, not only contained memories but also passed on magical abilities and knowledge to their descendants.
"I thought that was only possible among the same record mages."
Jin had believed that this benefit was only allowed for the complete mana body like Valeria, among the Histers.
[When I heard about the inheritance of the Hister clan from Valeria, I thought that I could do something similar or equivalent. So, I conducted several tests and discovered that it is possible to transfer my memories to pure-blood Runcandel.]
The reason it was only possible for pure-blood Runcandels was no different.
The "memory transfer" that Luet discovered was possible through her powers and the bond she had built with Temar a thousand years ago. If the target had no connection to Temar, the transfer could not be accomplished by any means.
Even though the Runcandels had never met Temar, they shared the same blood.
Only those who possessed the blessed bodies of Runcandel, like them, could inherit memories from Luet. Just like when Jin achieved "Battle god fusion" and received the senses of Vahn.
While Luet explained these details, Jin's eyes sparkled all the while.
"This is an incredible discovery, Head butler. However, it seems there are some limitations or costs involved."
[You have seen it correctly. First, when I perform the memory transfer, I become mentally exhausted. Furthermore, the flagbearers cannot fully realize the sensation of handling magic through my memories of learning magic. They can understand it intellectually, but their bodies don't cooperate. There are also significant gaps in my memories.]
The same applied to the Battle god fusion. When the synchronization was at its highest, Jin could use the senses of Vahn directly, but it wasn't always the case. If the synchronization became too high, as was experienced during the evil god war, he could lose himself.
[Going forward, whenever I have time, I plan to continue raising the magic abilities of all the flagbearers except for you, lord young patriarch, in this manner. With the sudden unveiling of suppressed mana due to the manipulation of history, they will soon be able to use quite destructive magic... ugh.]
Luet staggered forward as if about to collapse.
"Ms. Head butler!"
"Head butler, are you alright?"
Although it seemed fine on the surface, Luet was suffering the most severe fatigue among the members of Runcandel. Handling the duties of a Head butler alone was already challenging enough, and now she was performing memory transfers as well. Her body couldn't withstand it.
[I'm alright. As you said, lord young patriarch, rest and recharging are necessary. Please excuse me for a moment.]
Luet opened the window wide and spoke. Then she extended her head outside and took several deep breaths.
[Phew! It's fortunate that the air is refreshing. My whole body feels clearer now. I'm done.]
"Wait, you call this a rest?"
[Originally, fairies could recover their energy anytime they had wind and dew. That's why they were able to fulfill their duties of recording day and night. Anyway, now the flagbearers are also becoming magic swordsmen. Although we don't know when we will face the enemy, we must become stronger until then.]
No one could know when the war would begin. Although there was a one-year non-aggression treaty, it was just an illusion.
The reason the major factions were not attacking each other was that none of them had overwhelmingly superior strength. Except for Chiron, it was now clear that Jin is the strongest in the world, but the balance of power was far from settled.
In other words, the world was in a state of unstable equilibrium. When one side made a move, war was bound to begin.
Why couldn't they just avoid the war and maintain this peaceful era as it is?
There were quite a few people who had such thoughts. Jin himself would have seriously contemplated the issue if the desires of other major factions were simply to cultivate and rule their own lands peacefully.
However, they want to become the sole conqueror of the world.
Jin only seeks to reach the pinnacle of his clan, but they seek to reshape the world according to their desires, with all of humanity under their feet.
From Jin's perspective, whether it is Zipfel or Kinzelo, both of them are the ones who would turn the world into hell once they ascend to the throne of earth.
That's why Jin is in a position to stop them. To put an end to a thousand years of war and eliminate all those strange things like the Demon's God's Orb, Sun God, or Chaos.
Reclaiming a normal world and enjoying a peaceful life with loved ones. That is what Jin desires the most.
[Now, shall we discuss the recent state of affairs? Based on the available information alone, it is clear that we are making the fastest progress. The Young Patriarch has practically taken the position of the World's Best Sword, and talented individuals are flocking to us, bringing various new technologies.]
"However, our enemies remain unusually silent."
[I agree, Lord Young Patriarch. Even if they fear the young patriarch, there should have been attempts to hinder our progress at least once. Moreover, the lord young patriarch has continuously shown provocative and unconventional moves against our enemies.]
Clearly, the presence of the former patriarchs who apparently existed through chaos, and the public disclosure of records of the evil god war without consent of temporary alliance and publicizing the relationship between Valeria and Zipfel, and other actions were things that would undoubtedly make Zipfel uncomfortable. Even though handling Jin is burdensome, their passive response was concerning.
[In my opinion, there must be something other than the lord young patriarch at play here. Let's take a closer look at these reports.]
Luet spread the reports on the desk. They contained information about the recent developments concerning Kinzelo and Zipfel.
"It seems that both of them are primarily focused on internal stability."
Both factions had minimal contact with the outside world. They had not met with any neutral forces, similar to when the Holy Kingdom declared its seclusion. This was in contrast to Runcandel's continued assimilation of neutral forces.
Given the ongoing war between the major factions, it would be difficult for the remaining neutral forces to hold significant territories. The strongest neutral forces, such as the Hidden Palace, Nameless, the Black King mercenaries and the Ghost mercenaries, had already been absorbed by Jin in the past.
[There is no reason to leave the neutral forces unattended like this. It would be the right judgment to take action to prevent their absorption into our ranks. Yet, despite that, they remain inactive, suggesting that they are preparing something.]
"Preparations... Kinzelo is likely focused on recruiting demons and finding Lokia."
At the mention of Lokia's name, Luet's expression darkened.
[Lokia's potential betrayal is still a shocking revelation to me. I need to recover my memories from that time to fully understand her motivations. Although the circumstances indicate her betrayal, it's still just speculation.]
"If any relevant clues come up, Orgal will share them, so let's wait and see."
[Yes, Lord Young Patriarch. As you have feared, Kinzelo has been continuously replenishing their demon forces since your last visit to their New Headquarters. It is certain that they have created a passage leading to the Demon World, but the exact location has not been identified yet. Shall we allocate more resources?]
It is not the Mitra Desert, which was referred to as the "playground" by Ranke. However, Runcandel continued to gather information about the desert.
"No, there's no need to rush and find it right away. Continue investigating cautiously as you have been doing. When I went to the New Headquarters and Orgal challenged me, it was partly because he was in a bad mood for some reason... But it was also to warn me not to come recklessly. It's not a good time to provoke them for no reason."
[I understand. It makes sense that they do not want to show us how they are replenishing the demon forces. Concealing true power is a natural course of action.]
"However, their attempt to hide their full strength even while risking a battle with us might also mean that they are still unsure of themselves. Let's analyze their forces and the combat capabilities of the demons carefully and steadily while building our own strength."
[Understood. I will look for information related to Shagal Bachma, whom the lord young patriarch subdued at the New Headquarters. He belongs to the Phantom Demon Family.]
"Zipfel still hasn't contacted us since we ignored their request for the use of the purification device. It must be because Kelliark's condition is beyond the treatment of the purification device."
[Yes, and Zipfel has been continuously releasing articles claiming that we are provoking a new war after the evil god war. However, that's all they're doing, just focusing on investigating our main transportation methods. They haven't noticed anything about the Island of the Blacksmith.]
"Has the steel trade with Kinzelo shown any signs of success?"
[Yes, Zipfel is currently purchasing steel from Kinzelo at a higher price than what the lord young patriarch proposed to Orgal. They are paying more than expected.]
"Instruct our informants in the Lutero Magic Federation's black market to continue pretending that we are in need of steel. Some of them should offer a portion of the merchandise at exorbitant prices while secretly purchasing some to deceive others."
[Understood. And here, in the latest report, there is an intriguing passage.]
Jin's gaze fell upon the report.
"Kadun has been displaying signs of discomfort frequently?"
[Yes, for some reason, there have been frequent incidents of internal unrest within the Federation, to the extent that even our spies who have not infiltrated too deeply have taken notice.]
"While it is true that Kadun has a rough and unpredictable nature, if such reports are surfacing, it seems that some grievances have been building up. Could it be because Zipfel is not actively requesting the use of the Purification device on Kelliark?"
Just as Jin spoke up to that point, an informant rushed into the office unexpectedly.
"Lord young patriarch and Ms. Head Butler! We have received a report from the Federation's spies."
[Tell me.]
"Three days ago, near Zipfel's 1st Magic Tower, there was a massive explosion and tremors occurred! It is suspected to be a result of battle!"

Three days ago, in the Tower of Stories.
On that day, a meeting of the Zipfel's leaders was taking place in the Tower. Zipfel had been busy every day, trying to gather information about the movements of Runcandel and Kinzelo. However, there was an unusually tense atmosphere in the meeting room.
It was because Veradin had excluded Kadun from the meeting.
"So, Lord Young Patriarch, do you really have no intention of calling Lord Kadun?" Octavia asked.
"Lord Young Patriarch, wouldn't it be better to call Lord Kadun even now? He must be feeling very disappointed," even Ronil, who had never questioned Veradin's judgment before, thought that this time his actions were excessive.
During Kelliark's reign, Kadun was not only the guardian dragon of the entire Zipfel but also held a higher rank than Andrei or Octavia.
Kadun had not done anything wrong to be excluded from the leaders meeting.
Surprisingly, Kadun had never shown any anger in the meetings since he was insulted by Veradin during the last meeting. Even when unpleasant discussions about Runcandel arose, he remained calm and pretended to sleep.
"Is there any issue in the progress of the meeting because Lord Kadun is not here?" Veradin had no intention of complying with the requests of the leaders.
"Young Patriarch, that's not it, but... why do you keep provoking Lord Kadun?"
"I didn't call him because I didn't want to see him sitting there with a sullen face, sulking like a child, at every meeting. It seems like it's Lord Kadun who is the one provoking, not me. Is it okay for Lord Kadun to express discomfort in front of me without any consequences?"
"Young Patriarch! This 1st Magic Tower, the Tower of Stories, is originally the domain of both the Patriarch and Lord Kadun. If we exclude Lord Kadun even from the meetings held here for such trivial reasons, how do you think he would feel?"
"Now is the time for us to focus on our enemies, not to worry about individual's sensitivities."
"Unity is important, as Lord Young Patriarch said! Our enemies are gathering around Runcandel and Orgal, and here we are, having such petty fights. What resentment could Lord Kadun possibly have?"
"Fine, then let's move the meeting to a different location right away. Should we conduct it in Drakka instead of the Tower of Stories?"
"If it continues like this... I find it difficult to trust the Young Patriarch's judgment. If there is no reason to exclude Lord Kadun from not only the meetings but also any important matters."
"What if there isn't?"
When Veradin asked with a cold gaze, Octavia stopped speaking.
"If my father had done this, would things have turned out like this? Spectre Captain. What if there isn't a reason for excluding Lord Kadun from the meetings? Are you going to disobey my orders? Would I consider it an act of treason? Or will you refuse to attend the meetings following Lord Kadun? That would also be an act of disobedience, and it could be seen as treason."
"What, treason...!"
"The patriarch's orders are absolute. Even the ghosts, who were the former patriarchs, of Runcandel followed the commands well. If you are doing this because you think my abilities are inferior to Jin's, then I have nothing to say. But I believe that many members of the clan are currently unable to regain their senses."
Octavia gritted her teeth and avoided Veradin's gaze.
'Why has he changed like this...!'
When Veradin woke up for the first time, having lost all his memories and being in a state akin to a newborn, it was an extremely joyful occasion for the Zipfel.
Furthermore, the returned Veradin quickly took control of the clan, gaining powers similar to record magic. Thanks to that, they were able to end the evil god war with minimal damage and Veradin partially filled the void left by Kelliark.
But in Octavia's eyes, the current Veradin seemed to be going mad.
'Could it be a side effect of the mind manipulation we performed? No, it feels more like... retaliation for the mind manipulation. And no one was more deeply involved in Veradin's mind manipulation than Lord Kadun.'
As she pondered this, another name flashed in Octavia's mind, a name that played a greater role in manipulating Veradin's mind than Kadun.
'Patriarch...! If Veradin is retaliating against Lord Kadun, it could also extend to the Patriarch!"
Kelliark Zipfel.
He had been trapped in the life support device on the top floor of the Tower of Stories for several years now.
And there were only two individuals who could freely enter and exit the top floor of the Tower of Stories: the fire dragon Kadun and Veradin Zipfel.
If Veradin were to attack Kelliark's life supporting device alone...
Naturally, the current Kelliark would be unable to retaliate.
The thought sent shivers down Octavia's spine. Until now, it was something she had never considered, even before Veradin became more aggressive.
'If what he's doing is truly retaliation, and if he has no intention of stopping…'
She had to stop Veradin now. No matter how dangerous and chaotic the situation was, she had to eliminate the possibility of Veradin 'killing' Kelliark.
"You are also one of those people, Spectre Captain. To dare raise your voice so loudly just because you are uncomfortable with the way I treat Lord Kadun. It seems that I must have appeared quite ridiculous to you."
"I will be more cautious, young patriarch. It seems I have underestimated you."
"I sincerely hope so. May you never make a mistake driven by a different mindset."
Octavia shivered as she felt Veradin peering into her soul. Perhaps Veradin had become strong enough that neither she nor Kadun could restrain him.
"Well, let's proceed with the meeting then. We need to find a way to cut off the influx of martial artists and engineers gathering in Runcandel. Since the existence of Valeria Hister has become known to the public, too many talents are flowing into Runcandel."
"Most of the individuals who submitted applications to Vamel alliance from the Federation have already been investigated. There were over two thousand mages and engineers. How should we handle them?"
"It seems preferable to kill some as examples and absorb the rest."
"I think it's better to kill them all. After all, the few outstanding individuals among those two thousand have already joined the Vamel alliance, so the rest are practically useless manpower. It's better to kill them and instill fear in others."
"Both options are not bad. However, considering the current situation, we will temporarily hold off on punishing those who have charges of defection. Bring all those who couldn't join the Vamel alliance to our research institute. Let's utilize them for simple tasks for now, and once the situation stabilizes, we can reconsider their disposal."
"I will proceed that way."
"And..."
As they were about to discuss the next agenda, Veradin's expression suddenly sharpened.
Simultaneously, Ronil and Octavia were startled and heightened their senses. It was because they felt a very familiar, immense, and ferocious energy approaching rapidly towards the Tower of Stories.
"It seems that Lord Kadun is about to cross the line..."
It was Kadun's energy. If it were just flying, his energy couldn't be this turbulent. Clear aggression and anger were already coloring the entire sky outside.
"Elder Brother Ronil."
"Yes, Lord Young Patriarch."
"Instruct the troops stationed in the tower to immediately prepare for combat."
Young Patriarch!
Octavia was about to shout out, but she barely managed to close her mouth.
'Lord Kadun, why now of all times...!'
Even for her, it was completely unexpected that Kadun would come to the Tower of Stories with the intention of killing Veradin.
Octavia knows Kadun well.
In fact, it was almost a miracle that he had endured all the insults from Veradin until now. If it were the Kadun she knew, he would have settled matters with Veradin long ago.
'First, I have to somehow stop Lord Kadun. It must not happen that Lord Kadun and Veradin fight now!'
She can stop Kadun somehow. Kadun would eventually stop if she desperately appealed that it was not the right time for Kadun and Veradin to fight for the sake of Zipfel.
On the contrary, the problem lies with Veradin. Octavia doubted whether Veradin could simply overlook Kadun baring his fangs. It seemed unlikely.
'If Veradin ultimately decides to abandon Lord Kadun and initiates a preemptive strike, what should I do...!'
The outcome of their fight was uncertain. What mattered was that no matter who won, Zipfel would suffer irreparable damage.
As they stepped outside, Kadun's descent through the clouds could be seen.
The tower's mages had already assumed a state of readiness, aiming their staffs at Kadun. In the midst of them, Veradin stood and glared at Kadun.
[Veradin...! Why are you doing this? Do you really think it's acceptable to act this way towards me, who is both a pillar of the clan and the guardian dragon of your father?]
"This is your final warning, Lord Kadun. Immediately retract your energy and accept the suppression of the clan. Your current actions are treason."
[Treason, you say! So, this little brat finally lost his mind. Mages who are aiming their staff at me, I'll give you a chance. Whose orders will you follow? That mad Young Patriarch has no future. Today, I will turn that bastard into a handful of ashes.]
"Ha, it has come to this in the end. Fine. From now on, the Fire Dragon Kadun is a first-class traitor of the clan. The mages of the Magic tower shall cover me."
"Young Patriarch, wait a moment. Please, give me a moment to speak with Lord Kadun. I will try to stop him! I stake my name and honor on it, without fail."
"There's no need for that, Spectre Captain. What do you think is the reason for me treating Lord Kadun in such a harsh manner?"
"Yes, please, tell me. Why are you doing this? Even Lord Kadun asked."
Octavia spoke almost as if pleading her case. She had to prevent the situation from escalating into a clash between the two sides of the clan.
In response, Veradin turned around and pointed his finger towards the top of the tower.
"From now on, pay close attention to where Father is. See what unfolds."
With those words, Veradin extended the staff of the patriarch, "Hroti," towards Kadun.
