章節 5: Going To The Capital

A month later, Maximus sat in his study, meticulously processing the documents of Moonshadow City.

Thanks to ample funding, Moonshadow City had returned to its previous state of tranquility.

Now equipped with sufficient funds, he diligently oversaw repairs and improvements throughout the city, fortifying its foundation.

Maximus also made sure to look over Hazel and Erica's training.

With abundant resources, their progress was nothing short of astonishing.

As he immersed himself in the documents, his butler Gerald entered the room.

"Young master, a messenger has sent a letter,"

"Oh, hand it over."

Taking the letter, Maximus began to read its contents.

"An Evening Entertainment."

Upon reading the letter, he realized it was an invitation to the annual banquet in the Imperial Capital.

In the past, his father had despised such gatherings, considering them a waste of time and money.

However, as the sole representative of his family, Maximus was obligated to attend.

This event was hosted by the king of the Faerie Kingdom, and failing to attend was tantamount to treason.

"A month later..." Maximus sighed upon noting the date.

It seemed he had to go out of his nest.

But upon reflection, Maximus thought this might be an opportunity.

His salt trading business had already reached saturation.

Unless he lowered his prices or expanded to other kingdoms, he would struggle to make a profit in the short term.

Perhaps he could use this time to introduce new ventures.

"Very well, send a letter confirming my attendance,"

"I will see to it, young master," Gerald bowed and exited the room.

"Now, what should I sell?"

---

Two weeks later, his wives bid him farewell as he prepared to depart.

"Take care, dear, and stay safe," Erica said.

"Safe travels," Hazel added.

"Don't worry, nothing can happen to me," Maximus reassured them.

"By the way, feel free to bring home a sister or two."

Due to their pregnancies, they were unable to fulfill their marital duties and hoped Maximus would seek companionship elsewhere.

"We'll see~,"

Maximus had already come to accept the norms of this world.

Having multiple wives was commonplace as long as one possessed wealth and status.

He even heard of women choosing men as casually as picking out clothes.

After exchanging hugs and kisses, Maximus boarded his carriage.

He had specially acquired this carriage from the system.

[Celestial Chariot (Tier 3): An emulation of the divine chariot, capable of withstanding tier 3 attacks. Can escape from a tier 4 threat using magic crystals. Price - 300,000]

Due to the original body and his family dying while traveling, Maximus felt he had to be cautious.

Although it's expensive, it's a necessity. Who knows what danger he will encounter on the way?

He also purchased a tier 3 protection ring for 10,000 gold, a relatively modest cost compared to the carriage.

If not for the expense, he might want to buy a tier 4 protection ring for 1 million gold points.

For a weapon, he chose an Arcane Rifle.

[Arcane Rifle (Tier 1): A mechanic rifle that uses very little mana to fire arcane bullets. Price - 300]

Pleased by its aesthetics, Maximus bought it for fun.

Additionally, with just a little mana, he could fire arcane bullets even without learning the spell.

Making up for his trash talent, Maximus felt it was not a loss.

"Is everything ready, Edwin?" Maximus queried his headguard.

"Every detail is in order, my lord."

"Then let us proceed."

---

Three days later, they had covered half the distance to the Imperial Capital.

"We're approaching Death Forest; stay vigilant," Edward warned the other soldiers.

"Death Forest?"

Soon, a piece of memory resurfaced in his mind.

Death forest is where his father usually hunts; it is said that a tier 3 beast is hidden in the forest.

Passing through this area, he couldn't help but feel uneasy.

Fortunately, the carriage provided a sense of security, even in the unlikely event of encountering the tier 3 beast.

---

A few hours later, they found themselves deep within Death Forest.

Aoooo! ~

Suddenly, the howl of a wolf pierced through the air.

"Prepare for defense," Edwin quickly ordered

Seeing a massive pack of wolves, numbering hundreds, encircled them, they couldn't help but be nervous.

The reason they didn't attempt to escape was their inability to do so.

Only Maximus knew the carriage's capability.

To others, it appeared nothing more than a luxurious and imposing vehicle.

Moreover, the carriage couldn't accommodate all the guards even if they had known its secret.

"A wolf pack?" Maximus murmured, cracking open the carriage window.

"Be cautious, my lord," Edwin warned, seeing Maximus peering out.

Edwin had been raised by Maximus's father since childhood

With his talent and dedication, he had ascended to become a tier 2 Great knight.

"A Wolf King!"

A Wolf King possesses the same strength as Edwin, a tier 2 great knight.

Worse, it commanded a pack of at least three hundred wolves.

Against their numbers barely reaching a hundred, they were at a severe disadvantage.

"Defend!" Edwin shouted.

Soon, the wolf pack lunged forward, launching an assault.

With human intelligence and the power of soldier formation, the guards barely held their ground.

Seeing this, the Wolf King became cautious.

"Hmph, you beast," Edwin snarled, wanting to kill the Wolf King before it could take action.

Soon, the clash of swords and claws reverberated through the forest.

Having a stronger raw power, Edwin began to struggle against the Wolf King.

Meanwhile, observing the situation, Maximus picked out the arcane rifle and aimed at the Wolf King.

Knowing a normal attack wouldn't work, Maximus retrieved a tier 2 frost bullet and fired.

Boom! ~

As the Arcane Rifle fired a bullet, the Wolf King was suddenly alerted, dodging the attack.

Aooo!

Easily dodging the attack, the Wolf King looked at Maximus as if mocking, 'How dare a mere tier 1 ant attempt to assail this king,'

However, before it could do anything, the frost bullet hit the ground, freezing its body, giving Edwin an opening.

"Die!"

Slash~

With the sword separating the Wolf King's neck, its body quickly fell to the ground.

Thud~

Without the command of their leader, the wolf pack began to be disorderly, making it easier to kill.

Taking out the remaining wolf pack, Edwin and the guard began to pant, exhausted from the battle.

"No casualty? That's good!"

Although inexperienced, with the new weapon he provided, the guard was only injured at most.

"It's all thanks to the Lord." Edwin didn't take the praise.

If not for Maximus' crucial shot, the guards would be left alone to fend for themselves, and he may even be defeated.

"It's not a problem; come on, clean the area!"

"Understood, Lord Count!"

Aware of the danger of the Death Forest, the soldier dragged their tired and injured body and quickly cleaned up the battlefield.

Meanwhile, seeing they were so loyal, Maximus couldn't help but be moved.

"It seems it's time to intensify the training regimen for the guards,"

Previously, without any money and unwilling to reveal the system's existence, Maximus had refrained from using those precious training resources.

Now, with over five hundred thousand gold at his disposal and their loyalty tested, it was time to cultivate an elite army.

"Let's go!" Edwin shouted after hastily treating the injured soldiers.

"Let's not hurry; it's too dangerous to leave like this."

"But my lord—"

"No need to worry, it won't be long. First, have a healing potion," Maximus offered, presenting a storage bag filled with tier 1 healing potions.

Seeing this, Edwin felt moved and a little puzzled.

Where had his lord acquired such a rare commodity?

With scarce materials and potion-making alchemists, the sole source of potions was Berrun City.

Located at the edge of the Sunburnt Plateau, it was backed by another continental land, making procurement of potions relatively easy.

However, traveling from the Faerie Kingdom to the edge of the Sunburnt Plateau was not a simple task.

Just the journey alone would take a couple of months to a year, not to mention the dangers on the way.

Without a tier 3 Earth Knight, traveling such a distance was impossible.

If Maximus' father were still alive, he wouldn't doubt the source of the potion.

But now…

"I bought them from the passing merchant who sold the salt in our city."

"So that's it," Edwin nodded, feeling enlightened.

He had also heard rumors about this mysterious merchant selling more than 30 tons of salt, earning millions of gold coins.

Buying a few tier-1 healing potions should be easy.

"Hurry, take these to the soldiers."

"Thank you, Lord,"

"Hmm"

Soon, after taking the tier 1 healing potion, their injuries stopped bleeding and began to scab.

Being healed, they continue with their journey.
