章節 100: The Generational Homeland

"You know, when I first met you I didn't think I'd stay around long enough to see this." Shooting her partner a grin, Gu Yuena soaked in the faint amusement in his eyes and the slight squeeze of her palm. They had known each other for less than a year and yet they had grown far closer than either expected. And now, their journey was taking its next step.

Outside the window of their train, the city of Shrek extended far into the distance, its glory on display for all to see. They were here, at the next destination in life. Their time together was only just beginning.

"Neither did I. But… it's better this way." Softly speaking as though embarrassed Wulin wore a soft grin, her heart beating out of turn. Once more she was relieved that she had 'claimed' him before anyone else had.

"Yes, it's definitely better." Resting her head on Wulin's shoulder Gu Yuena felt as though all was right in this world. FUG was growing in the shadows, the Spirit Beasts had agreed to assist Wulin, and the future of this world was slowly changing to better fit her image. She was almost scared at how perfectly everything was going.

If she hadn't met Wulin, this future would never exist. He played a large part in all of it and his presence at her side made her realize the importance of trust. She was King, she was Order, and she was alone. However, in teaching Wulin how to become human she realized that she herself wasn't quite human either.

She was a means to an end, a weapon leading to the extinction of humanity masquerading as a leader. She acted human and lied to herself, tricking her own mind into believing it all by her own will. But that was all it ever was, a lie.

Teaching Wulin to trust others made her aware of that fact whether she wanted it or not. She didn't trust anybody, she believed she couldn't. Was she any different from Wulin in that case? A lonely being moving on logic alone? No, she really wasn't.

Now, less than a year later, could she truly claim to be lonely? A teacher who cared for them immensely under the guise of stoicism, comrades who while young were a breath of fresh air in her long life, and him. Wulin was her everything, her lifelong partner. Her life had changed because of him and he changed because of him. They were two flawed kings, learning together.

Giggling softly Gu Yuena tightly squeezed his rough hand. The two halves of the Dragon God were flawed like any other. They believed themselves to be better but look at what had happened, one was dead and one had become human.

"We're here. If I hear even one complaint from your guide I'll make your life hell." Leaving those threatening words behind Wu Zhangkong lifted the unconscious and tightly bound evil soul master and disappeared. Their train had been attacked relatively early and so their teacher had been watching over the terrorist all this time.

"Damn, is it just me, or is he scarier than usual?" Shuddering in his seat Xie Xie felt as though Wu Zhangkong was standing over his shoulder even though he had left. For the past week since they met the Atlas Douluo, he had been visibly on edge.

"He's just nervous." Blandly responding to Xie Xie's concerns Wulin stood up and made way for Gu Yuena to step out while he pulled their luggage out of the top compartment. They didn't have much in there with storage tools but some remained since they didn't have infinite space.

During the last week, the entirety of Class 0 had spent their time packing their belongings in preparation for their transfer while Yun Ming worked on the actual paperwork of it all. Wulin hadn't thought he had that much but since his storage tool was bursting at the seams it seems he had been wrong.

In hindsight, he could see why it would be the case. On each night out with Gu Yuena the two purchased a small trinket to bring home to remember the night by. Most were small things like jewelry, stuffed animals, and even the occasional photos but they quickly added up.

In the past, Wulin hadn't understood the reason behind it as he perfectly remembered those nights but these days he quite liked them. His Teacher had always told him that such belongings had no value and should be discarded but Wulin ignored his words. That man didn't control his life, not anymore.

His influence couldn't be denied, he was the man who made Wulin who he was today, but Wulin wouldn't fall back on his advice any longer. He had plenty of people to take his spot, his mother for common sense, his mentor for combat, and Gu Yuena for everything in between. His life was filled to the brim with people who could fill in where he lacked, he didn't need that man.

"Nervous? Him? Is the sky falling?" Shaking his head doubtfully Xie Xie dropped the topic and moved on, swiftly leaving the train before Mu Xi could ask him for help. He wasn't weak but he didn't feel like lifting all her numerous unrefined metals.

"Who knows, the Atlas Douluo is here." Nearly snapping her neck at Wulin's words, Mu Xi couldn't believe what she had just heard. Giggling at the side Gu Yuena watched on as Wulin carried her belongings with his usual impassive face.

"Did he…?" Pointing her finger at Wulin and wearing her disbelief like makeup, Mu Xi felt as though she had just been struck by a war hammer with how dazed she felt. Wulin had been opening up as of late but… that was something she never expected from him.

"Make a joke? No, never." Melodious laughter spilled from Gu Yuena's lips as she left Mu Xi behind, her eyes taking in the sights of Shrek unblocked. It was a bustling place, with people of all types wandering through the streets with excitement in their eyes.

Finally, after twenty thousand years of history, Shrek could greet its heir.

****

Hey there, hope you liked the chapter.

It feels almost poetic that we're finally stepping foot onto Shrek on chapter 100. Still, 100 chapters is wild. It's been quite a long ride huh? I'm grateful for all of you that stuck with me all this time, leaving comments and giving power stones all this time. It's because of people like you, that I was able to keep my motivation strong and make it this far. Thank you so much for reading up to here and I hope you keep reading one hundred more.

P.S. I wasn't able to fit in the actual note but please give more reviews. They mean a lot.

If you want more chapters, head to patre*on.com/TrapOverlord for up to 25 extra chapters. It isn't required but it'd be much appreciated.
