"Let go, Max," Emilia said as she pulled her arm away from the much taller man.
"Emilia," he groaned, his tone pained and pleading but keeping his grip tight on her.
"I'm not avoiding you so drop it," Emilia hissed as she glared at him.
He paused and stared at her with an intense look in his eyes, she tried to read what was running through his mind at that moment, but Maximillian Astor has always been difficult to read.
"Max," Emilia sighed as the cogs in her head turned as she tried to find a way to get Max to relent. "We're here to watch over Maya."
Max glared at her but said nothing.
He dropped his hand and allowed Emilia to leave.
She let out a breath of relief as she walked over to check on Maya.
The woman was pale, but she slept peacefully, as like a princess the storybook Emilia enjoyed as a child. But she knew such princesses didn't exist.
"She'll be fine, right?" Emilia asked, speaking to herself.
