Adeline gave her son an awkward smile and shook her head.
"You knew?" she asked her son.
"Mom," he answered with a raised eyebrow.
"Fine, it was your Dad," Adeline chuckled. "He thought that you already had a lot on your plate and it would be best to keep it from you."
Nathaniel smiled.
He was honestly thankful that his family cared that much for him. The fact that they genuinely cared about made him feel like one of the luckiest people on the planet.
"As much as I appreciate it, Mom," Nathaniel told her. "I would prefer to know what is happening. I don't want to return to Vertis City unaware of what is going on."
"You're returning soon?" Adeline asked as she glanced at Maya nervously.
Nathaniel gave her a small nod, "When Maya and I are ready we will figure out a way to manage our time between Vertis and Arlington."
"That's great news!" Adeline told her son.
"Mom, you're diverting the topic," Nathaniel pointed out.
