When I had lain in David's arms dying from Ash's sword in my back all I'd been able to think about was the pain, and getting back to him.

Every time I had thought about that moment, it was with the ache of hearing his love and devotion and vowing to myself to get back to him.

It hit me, as David's entire body jolted and his eyes flew so wide they seemed to bulge, that I hadn't ever considered how awful that moment was for him.

I was sobbing before his hands had even made it to his chest, flailing against the hilt of the blade, weakly, helpless clawing at it.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry," I gasped, pulling the blade free with a sickening slide and tossing it aside as his knees gave way and he tipped towards me. I helped him sink to the ground safely, never letting him go, leaning over him, begging him to forgive me.
