Arca's instincts alerted him to the danger much later than they should've been. But he knew it wasn't because he was too relaxed.

Quite the opposite—since Irmilla suddenly fell with a curse, Arca's nerves were on edge even if he hid it.

He detected the approaching magic arrow only when it was fifteen meters away. It blazed like a comet in the night sky, brilliantly bright, and was the size of a two-handed sword.

It looked very much like the arrow sent by the man in white just recently.

With the speed it was moving, there was no time for a proper defense, and on a pegasus he couldn't dodge as well as on land. Plus, he had Irmilla sitting in a saddle in front of him, slowing his steed even further.

"Father Santangelo!" Romeo exclaimed, noticing the attack, too. His lips moved to cast a spell, but the protective water sphere gathered around him too slowly.
