As the journey back to Everkeep continued, Adeline couldn't help but notice that Sophia seemed distant and preoccupied.

She pretended to sleep most of the time, avoiding any conversation between them. The atmosphere during their trip felt eerie and unsettling.

Sophia only woke up when Adeline nudged her for mealtime. She forced a grateful smile but kept avoiding eye contact with Adeline. Adeline could sense that something was bothering Sophia, but she didn't want to pry.

During the meals, Sophia was polite and tried to engage in small talk, but her mind seemed to be elsewhere.

Adeline decided to give her some space, assuming that Sophia needed time to process whatever was troubling her.
