However, they were all in Asgardian. Of course, Ace wasn't surprised. Why would they have books in english? That didn't make sense. However, they spoke english, which confused Ace a bit…
Just as he was browsing, a voice interrupted him, "Enjoying the collection?" Ace paused and turned to see a very beautiful woman. He was stunned, she looked so kind. It was a very strange impression, he felt like this woman couldn't harm even an insect.
He felt very warm and close to this woman instantly, which was very strange because Ace didn't feel like that towards even the Ancient One. He replied "I- Um-" The woman smiled gently, walking over and looking at the tomes, saying "No need to be nervous, little one. I've heard of your exploits from Thor."
She turned to him and smiled, "I am Frigga, Queen of Asgard, and Thor's mother." Ace was startled and bowed, "Your majesty." Frigga waved and lifted Ace up, replying softly "There's no need for formalities, young mage. On the contrary, I should be thanking you for helping Thor."
Ace was flustered and replied "I didn't really- I mean, I haven't-" Frigga smiled and said "Nonsense. Come with me." Ace followed Frigga as she walked away, adding "I've heard that you are quite talented in Magic?"
Ace replied humbly "Not really. I've only just begun to study…" Frigga snorted softly in amusement, "A beginner mage is capable of surviving the Destroyer, are all mages in Midgard the same?" Ace was speechless and played with his hands in embarrassment.
Frigga smiled warmly, "There's no need to be so reserved, little one. A friend of Thor is a friend of Asgard. In addition…" she turned her head to Ace, winking, "I have heard from the Allfather, of the Humans you are one of the few worthy."
Ace was stunned and Frigga laughed softly, "Your disguises may fool others, however they cannot fool me, child. I find your Totem powers to be quite interesting." Ace was confused, asking with interest, "Totem Powers?"
Frigga smiled happily, noticing that Ace forgot to be shy, explaining "Yes, your transformation into beasts. We call this power Totemic Magic, this magic is very prevalent in the forests of Alfheim where the light elves once resided. However, it seems yours is rather incomplete, unfortunately." Ace took out his notebook and asked "Could you explain a bit more?"
Frigga smiled gently, feeling a gratifying feeling for someone who loved magic, she started explaining the Totem Magic as Ace wrote down everything she said. As they continued walking, Ace bombarded Frigga with questions.
After a while, Frigga stopped in a library, asking "Little one, Odin has told me about your study under his friend. I was under the impression you were the next Guardian of Earth?" Ace stopped and replied "Well. I left."
Frigga tilted her head, asking "Oh? Why?" Ace sighed and explained, "I want to help the innocent with my powers, not sit on a mountain and wait for some dimensional threat. The more I wait, the more people are in danger. I could save so many people, why should I not interfere?"
Frigga sat down and smiled, "What else troubles you, little one?" Ace's lips quivered a bit and for some reason, he trusted Frigga deeply, revealing, "My in-action caused the death of a young man. I knew there was suspicion and danger, however I simply waited rather than taking action, directly resulting in the death of a promising young wizard. I feel guilty all the time…"
He sat down and continued "No matter how many apologies I give to the father of the boy, and no matter how much forgiveness he returns, I still feel guilty…" Frigga closed her eyes before opening them as Ace went on, "I just want to save everyone, I don't understand why people keep telling me that I can't. Do people need to die? We all live, love, and wish for happiness, why does crime exist? Are we not all the same people? The same species?"
Frigga smiled gently, taking Ace's hands, explaining "My dear boy, foul people shall always exist. You know this. Death is only another cycle of life, it's what gives life meaning. Even the Gods of Asgard age and perish. Although we may live longer than you can, it doesn't mean that death never comes."
She smiled gently and wiped his tears, continuing, "In Asgard, death in combat isn't not a sad event, but a celebrated victory. The spirits in Valhalla rejoice at dying a warrior's death, I suspect war heroes are celebrated in Midgard as well." Ace nodded and replied "But needless death for power…"
Frigga smiled, patting his hands, asking "You practice magic to save innocents, correct?" Ace nodded and Frigga continued, "Then what of you, should there be no struggles for power? Should death cease to exist, what are you to do?"
Ace shook his head, replying "I don't know." Frigga nodded replying "Indeed, without death we have no drive, no direction. It is an abyss of terror as well as a driving force for all beings in the universe. It pushes us to make something of ourselves with our limited time. Should it not exist, life itself would cease to advance."
She snorted and looked at Ace gently, "You have a gift, a remarkable talent for Magic. To question yourself regarding the death of one, will cause the deaths of many more. From my long life, I've learned that death is inevitable…"
She paused for a moment before saying softly, "There is no cure, there is no reversal, there is no escape. Sometimes no matter how hard you try, it is just fate…" before smiling, squeezing Ace's hands, "Therefore, you must cast your doubts away. The death you feel guilt for, should be a cautionary tale. You shall not let negligence prevent you from your goals."
Ace sniffed and nodded, Frigga let go of his hands and patted his cheek, "Good boy. Learn from your mistakes, do not dwell on them. Cursing death only leads to more suffering. Now come, I shall teach you." Ace was startled and looked up at Frigga, who smiled "I must see for myself your talent."
Ace got excited and followed Frigga, who grabbed many books, starting to teach. Ace sat and took notes in great detail, putting on his magical glasses as he read the books while Frigga spoke.
It was very strange, he felt as though knowledge was just flowing into him. Frigga's voice was almost like music!
Time passed quickly, until an alarm sounded, disturbing Ace's writing.
