章節 57: CHAPTER 54

"Are vampires really as bad as the myths make them out to be?" Allison asked as she followed her Dad to the underground cellar under their house. "Wait, so these weapons are actually for dealing with werewolves and other supernaturals and not for armed forces right?"

Chris chuckled but didn't bother correcting her minor misunderstanding. They really were certified weapon dealing agents.

"About vampires, well let's just say no one has a good opinion of them inside and outside the supernatural community." Chris said with a veiled edge in his voice. He had thoroughly checked through all the past police records and also everything the local papers printed about any irregularities in Beacon Hills going back ten years.

Nothing was more dangerous than a supernatural threat a Hunter couldn't identify and being the most experienced Hunter in Beacon Hills and its neighboring towns, that meant every innocent person was in more danger than he could comprehend.

"So vampires are the bad guys in any scenario, got it." She nodded and watched with rapt attention as her father loaded up bullets he took from a wooden case with an inscribed symbol on it. She hesitated a bit but ended up asking. "Are all vampires, werewolves and other supernaturals bad? Is it something that comes with their nature or is it a personal choice?"

Chris paused what he was doing and turned to look at Allison seriously. "It doesn't matter what kind of supernatural they are, we live by the code. Whether they are good or bad doesn't matter, if they go against our code, we retaliate."

We hunt those who hunt us.

It was a simple code they followed and it was all they needed to confront anyone that fell short of it. Whether the code was arrogant or not, in their world, strength rules.

It is the strength that the supernaturals were so proud of that made them act without care had the Hunters not been there to put them in line.

Allison flinched at the tone her father had replied to her with, but immediately composed herself so as not to be found lacking.

"Understood." She did.

The law was simple; she hurt those who aim to hurt her, she strikes at those who strike her… she kill those who seek her life.

The code also didn't just apply to her or the Argent family, or any other hunting family in particular. It applied to all humans, regardless of their knowledge of it, it basically meant that the hunting families had taken it upon themselves to safeguard the human race, globally, from the terror of the night.

Allison looked around the basement, going from the pistols to the rifles, the snipers and shotguns, and then the longbows hung on the wall.

"If you have something to ask me, ask." Chris said after noticing her discomfort which she tried to hide by looking around the place she was used to all her life.

Hearing her father's words, Allison spotted an impish face and asked something that she had once thought of after a specific memory came to mind.

"Kate told me, though she didn't go into detail, about how our ancestors in the 1700s hunted a psychopathic mass-murdering werewolf in a small village in France."

"La Bête Du Gévaudan." Chris muttered softly, easily remembering the reason for his family's entire ancestry.

"Yes. I know that's how the Argents as a Hunting Family came to be, but what I am curious about is why specifically werewolves? I know we also hunt other supernaturals who prey on innocents but it's more specifically werewolves that we always have on our focus. Is there any particular reason for that?"

It was something she was quite curious about as even though they were an Ancient Hunting Family, they immortalized the weakness of a wolf as their strength.

Chris shook his head and simply said she wasn't yet ready to learn why.

Allison grunted but sulkily dropped the topic for another one she was in favor of. "You never did mention why no one likes vampires. Are they really unkillable, with blinding speed and suffer from a curse of the sun?"

Though he tried, Chris couldn't really stop the eye roll that he subconsciously did as he heard the cliché view almost seem to have of vampires.

"It doesn't work like that Allison," He said as he loaded his two pistols with practiced ease. "There are different species of vampires and just as many offshoots of them. If you're asking whether they are truly immortal then the answer is no. Though they do have some type of prolonged lifespan which depends mostly on their blood intake."

Allison quickly figured out what he was trying to say. "So since the number of drained victims in Beacon Hills are pretty negligible that means it's very unlikely that it's one, a vampire I mean."

Chris nodded. "Yes. But like I said, vampires are pretty much considered extinct."

"Because of their thirst for blood?" Allison asked tentatively.

"Yes, but not the way you think. In a way, blood can be said to be the identity of any living being. It's a prime essential for life." He wasn't exactly comfortable with telling his daughter something that even some Hunter Patriarchs weren't even aware of.

As far as he was concerned, vampires were better off dead more so than werewolves ever had the right to be. They represented a greater threat than rabid dogs that the wolves were.

"Taking that, what can be considered the most important thing in any living being, the thrill of robbing someone's most prized treasure; it's a high that corrupts whatever was lacking in them even more. They are more wise, more tricky, more devious, more monstrous, and overall more dangerous than a single wolf. This is not a fairytale, Allison. Vampires are probably the only species that other supernaturals prefer dead for the simple reason that they can prey on any living thing. A natural predator to every living being."

Allison didn't know why but she felt a primitive chill on her heart as she listened to her father's words, as if a nightmare she didn't want to sleep to finally became her reality much to her confusion.

At that very moment, she remembered her two friends and her heart grew heavy. 'Guess we've all been living a life of lies.'

No one knew what was going through Allison's head as she silently listened to Chris talk about the myths of mythical creatures.

"Your grandfather is the only person I know who's ever seen a vampire in the last 50-something years. It also puts into focus that no one really knows everything there is to know about a vampire since they are recluse and solitary in nature. We only know basic rituals that act as weaknesses against them such as washing silver in a very rare species of mistletoe."

He finally packed all he needed to begin his hunt and left the cellar with Allison after reading Kate's latest update.

"Stay here. Your mom will be back soon and I'll call if anything changes." Chris said before driving away at full throttle.

[Stiles Stilinski POV]

"What the hell do you mean by 'the Alpha is at the hospital!?'"

"Shhh!" Scott covered my mouth with his hands in panic making me realize that we were still in public.

Dragging him as I bent down, I whispered my question to him. "How is he at the hospital?"

"Tristan called-"

"Wait, how did Tristan get your number?" I asked curiously.

Scott sighed in a way that let me know his next words would probably infuriate me. "He got it from Derek."

"Dere-"

"Shh!"

Right, keep the screaming down in public.

"So Tristan and Derek? For some reason I don't like our odds against them." I ended up voicing out my honest thoughts.

Something about the tow of them, along with Malia, working together just smelled like chaos cooking in a pot brew. It was like a prologue to disaster.

"Who said anything about odds, Stiles?" Scott asked in exasperation. "We are not up against anybody, least of all Derek and Tristan."

I scoffed at his naiveté. "Yeah, keep thinking so." At this point it was like a writing on the wall. "So how did you find out who the Alpha was?"

The blasted cub looked away sheepishly scratching his head in anxiousness.

"Well?"

"I went through the hospital's log through my mom's desktop." Getting to that point his face gained a serious look before he continued.

"The name of the patient in the room number Tristan gave me is Hale. Peter Hale."

"Huh?"

I don't know when Scott dragged me out of the open and pushed me into my jeep because the only thing I can remember is being stunned into silence at the reveal.

"Huh?"

A Hale is the psycho murder-loving Alpha? Thinking about it now, I can't say I'm that much surprised given what I know of Derek so far. It might be stereotypical of me but I believe I reserve the right to be rightfully stereotypical when the fact that they are supernaturals gets put into the equation.

"So what do we do now?" I asked.

"Nothing." He said and released a relief sigh.

"What do you mean 'nothing'?"

Now it was his turn to look at me in confusion as if he could not understand why I was asking a simple question like that.

"I don't understand. What else do we have to do? Tristan said they'd take care of the Alpha and I don't want to know what that means and I'm not too keen on finding out either." Scott clarified but I wasn't having it.

"But you found the Alpha!"

"Technically, they found the Alpha, not me."

"Since when has anyone ever agreed with technicalities, Scott? Come on, we're going." I didn't listen to anything he had to say as I started the jeep and began tracking Derek, since he'll lead us to wherever Peter, the Alpha, will be
