章節 63: A Fly In The Wall II

Contrary to popular belief, one could actually smell a demon if they knew what they were looking for. A mixture of rotten eggs and rust dumped into a vat of month-old fish, that was the smell of a demon's sulfur.

For Irwin, such a rank smell couldn't escape his notice, causing him to employ the Ward of Obviation and burn through millions of dollars in one night. He had tried to reason through, but the heartache that came with the destruction of the moon rock was too much for his mind to bear.

Of course, he had tried to find who amongst the hospital staff was the possessed vessel, but had been hesitant to use his credits on such a mundane chore and had no time to actually get the lay of the land.

Irwin placed Ansem's body on the passenger seat, before walking up to his car and opening up the trunk where the corpse of the Sire vampire lay dead.

He opened his Trade Shop and began the conversion.

He was delighted by the large number of credits given by the Elder vampire as he had to buy the suppressing pills worth fifty credits and another ten credits for the potion that helped Andy during the fight.

"It's yours, Sam." Irwin then took out the large bag and placed it on the back of the car, leaving the trunk empty for Sam to work with.

Dean was checking the cartridges on his sniper rifle, a smile on his face as he now had the opportunity to use the weapon.

"I only have one bullet." Irwin reminded Dean as the latter placed the rifle cartridge inscribed with a Devil's Trap inside of the rifle. "Make it count."

"Yeah, yeah." Dean shrugged off Irwin's words, walking away to find the best position.

"Places, people! Dean and I will handle the demon. Sam and Andy, be prepared to rush in if you see anything out of the ordinary." Irwin ordered them around after a while.

"Are you sure the demon's coming?" Sam asked.

Irwin shrugged. "Don't know. But if it were, then this would be a good place to deal with us. We'll wait for ten minutes."

Irwin grabbed his Iridium knife and jogged towards the end of the parking lot, hiding in the middle of a large delivery van and the concrete column. He would have normally used a Flaming Whip, but he figured this would be a good opportunity to practice his Vessel Immobilization spell.

They waited for no more than seven minutes before a lithe man wearing a white lab coat and blue scrubs, sclera pitch black that strained even the far edges around its eyes. He could tell it was the demon just from the smell emanating out of its vessel, rancid and rank as a demon should be.

It slammed its palms against the window of the Impala, anger evident in its body language.

Without waiting for Irwin's signal, Dean took his shot and hit the demon square in the side of his head

'Well, that was easy.' Irwin pursed his lips, before shrugging and revealing himself. "We could smell you from a mile away, demon."

"Like a damn dog," Dean chortled, standing up from his crouching position as he stowed his rifle. "We should get going if we need to get away from the cops."

Irwin scanned the demon's vessel, shaking his head at Dean's suggestion. "Nah, don't worry about it. I've already told Detective Miller to disregard any 9-1-1 calls coming from the parking lot."

Their conversation was cut short by the demon's obnoxious laughter. The black veins around its eyes seized and grew longer, reaching to its eyes and the bridge of its nose. "You cannot kill me. Might as well run before I tear you apart."

Irwin placed his fingers on his lips and whistled for the other two. "Let's wrap it up."

Sam and Andy left their hiding places and entered their respective cars, having been assigned to drive both cars.

Dean and Irwin, on the other hand, took time to place a gag on the demon's mouth and bind its hand behind its back and its feet on the back of its legs like a pig ready for roasting.

They carried the resisting demon towards the open trunk of the second car and placed him inside where a large Devil's Trap was created on the top of the trunk. With the bullet and trunk containing a Devil's Trap, Irwin was rest assured that the demon would have no place to leave or wreck chaos, at least temporarily.

"You sure this can hold him?" Dean asked, throwing a rosemary cross inside before closing the trunk.

Irwin shrugged. He got the idea from them, after all. "We'll see."

Their cars soon left the parking building and drove right onto the highway, with Andy driving with Irwin in the rental car. A rental car he wouldn't be able to return, given the blood, demonic pentagram, and, of course, the demon in the trunk.

"That's three grand down the drain." He muttered, earning the attention of Andy's half-asleep form.

"What's that?" He asked, yawning, before looking back to the trunk where a soft banging sound was emanating. "Uh, are we sure that…"

"Don't worry about it." Irwin smirked. "Anyway, now that we have time. I ought to hear your thoughts on my proposal."

"What? Training my powers?" Andy blew air on his lips, hesitation on his face. He looked back to where the almost rhythmic bangs of the car's trunk as he digested the various scenarios he had come across in the past few days. "If that demon had not been stopped by you guys… would he have-"

"Yep. As long as one of you lives, they don't care what happens. Hell, they'd rather have Ansem kill you rather than intervene." Irwin spoke the truth, mixing in a little bluff. Contrary to his words, Azazel very much would like for the children to be alive and only to be culled during the competition.

'But you don't need to know that.' He thought, before giving Andy a smile. "Look, I won't promise that it'll be easy, but once you give it a chance… I will promise that you'll be able to survive the oncoming war."

Andy went silent for the rest of the ride as he contemplated the decision. Irwin, though not privy to his thoughts, knew of the source of his companion's silence, so he did not bother him.

Soon, he slowed down the car as they entered the interstate highway before eventually stopping down the lonely highway road, flagging down the Impala that had followed them here.

Irwin met up with the Winchesters halfway through and shook Sam's hand. "Thanks for bringing me in."

Sam snorted, shaking his head as if to wave off his gratitude. "No problem, man. You did us a favor."

"I'll be taking care of the demon. You boys gonna be alright?" He asked, a smirk on his face.

"Probably not." Dean replied with a playful shrug of his shoulder. "So what happens to Professor X."

Irwin shrugged. "Like I said, I'll be rehabilitating him. Maybe the next we meet, you'll be talking to him. Also, for a butch rocker, you sure do know a lot about comic books."

Sam grinned, turning sideways to his brother. "Yeah, Dean. What is up with that?"

"Shut up." Dean rolled his eyes. "I read those when I was a kid, alright. Only things I can buy for 50 cents."

Irwin carried Ansem out of the Impala and into the back of his rental car, his brother, Andy, gazing solemnly as Irwin strapped the unconscious psychic into his seat.

The Impala drove away, riding off into the orange-hued horizon and leaving Irwin and the psychic brothers on the highway road.

Irwin held the driver's door open, gazing at Andy with a soft look on his face. "It's now or never, Andy. Guthrie's a couple of miles out, so I could still call you a taxi and you could go in your merry way. At least for a couple of months… then, well, you know what'll happen."

Andy smiled, one borne out of the frustrations of life, before slumping back down to his seat and saying, "You live in California, right? Maybe I'll meet some Valley girls."

Irwin scoffed softly. "I have one at home. Please, take her with you when you leave."

Irwin switched the car back to life and resumed their day-long drive back to California, ignoring the poundings of their vehicle's trunk.

It was a good day, Irwin surmised. In fact, it was better than most.
